Everything HomeThis modern transitional home was designed for a family of four and their pets. Our Indianapolis studio used wood detailing and medium wood floors to give the home a warm, welcoming vibe. We used a variety of statement lights to add drama to the look, and the furniture is comfortable and complements the bright palette of the home. Photographer - Sarah Shields

For an even more impressive effect, the niche can be lined with material that matches the worktop. There are also further new features for this kitchen: bridge handle, available in two finishes, silver and bronze, and an attractive, roomy glass-fronted cupboard that provides a practical furnishing option for the living area.

Copper Sky Design + RemodelA quintessential 1925 bungalow located in the charming neighborhood of Virginia Highland in Atlanta, this project included a renovation of the kitchen, family room and powder room on the first floor, and the laundry and primary bath on the second. The Copper Sky Design + Remodel team reconfigured the first floor to better accommodate additional cabinetry and an island in the kitchen by borrowing space from what was a full bathroom and converting it to a half bath. Upstairs, unfinished attic space was converted to a roomy laundry room while the 200 square foot primary bath remained in its original footprint.
Studio DearbornThis expansive Victorian had tremendous historic charm but hadn’t seen a kitchen renovation since the 1950s. The homeowners wanted to take advantage of their views of the backyard and raised the roof and pushed the kitchen into the back of the house, where expansive windows could allow southern light into the kitchen all day. A warm historic gray/beige was chosen for the cabinetry, which was contrasted with character oak cabinetry on the appliance wall and bar in a modern chevron detail. Liz Schupanitz DesignsCooking for Two
Location: Plymouth, MN, United States
When this couple’s last child graduated from college they began the process of looking for a new home. After a lengthy search they decided to stay with the neighborhood they loved, saving money by remodeling rather than starting over.
The top priorities on their wish list were adding character to their 1990’s era home with a classic white kitchen and a larger island while keeping within the existing footprint. With the intention of honing their cooking skills, they were also considering better appliances and two ovens.
Challenges and Solutions
Design a larger island with seating for at least two. The existing island was small and the area behind the seating was less than recommended clearances.
To solve this challenge, the seating area of the island was extended out into the open area of the kitchen. This created a larger island with seating for three, extra storage and a bookshelf across from the range.
The original kitchen had a range with microwave above, so adding another oven was a challenge with limited wall space.
Because the adjoining dining room is used infrequently, the homeowner was open to placing the second oven and microwave in the walkway. This made room for the small buffet between the built in refrigerator and ovens, creating one of her favorite areas.
The client requested a white painted kitchen but wanted to make sure it had warmth and character. To achieve this the following elements were chosen:
1) Cabinets painted with Benjamin Moore Capitol White, a luminous and warm shade of white.
2) The Range hood was painted with warm metallic shades to reflect the bronze of the Ashley Norton hardware.
3) Black Aqua Grantique granite was chosen for countertops because it looks like soapstone and adds contrast.
4) Walker Zanger Café tile in Latte was chosen for it’s handmade look with uneven edges.
5) The to-the-counter-cabinet with glass door shows off serving dishes and lends sophisticated charm.
The result is a welcoming classic kitchen, where this couple enjoys cooking more often and sharpening their skills with gourmet appliances.

Fraher & Findlay Architects LtdThis Victorian house is situated in a leafy part of London
and had all the ingredients of a beautiful period home but was in need of modernisation. The owners were keen to bring it back to life and extend with a keen eye on the ‘vintage’ feel of found and restored finishes.
The side of the closet wing was removed at ground floor
level to form full width kitchen and dining spaces. The
extension design resembles a glass house with the dining room sitting between the original building spaces and the new extension.
Kandrac & Kole Interior Designs, Inc.This was a full gut an renovation. The existing kitchen had very dated cabinets and didn't function well for the clients. A previous desk area was turned into hidden cabinetry to house the microwave and larger appliances and to keep the countertops clutter free. The original pendants were about 4" wide and were inappropriate for the large island. They were replaced with larger, brighter and more sophisticated pendants. The use of panel ready appliances with large matte black hardware made gave this a clean and sophisticated look. Mosaic tile was installed from the countertop to the ceiling and wall sconces were installed over the kitchen window. A different tile was used in the bar area which has a beverage refrigerator and an ice machine and floating shelves. The cabinetry in this area also includes a pullout drawer for dog food.
