The open shelves to the right of the sink even house a toaster and mixer that you actually want to see, along with cookbooks, glassware, and ceramics. Small hexagonal tile goes up the entire wall for an easy to clean surface.

Beachy Boheme InteriorsThis kitchen got a complete face lift with the help of a coat of paint, new coutertops and backsplash tile. The original cabinets were a yellow oak circa 1980's and we chose a pale gray (Light French Gray by Sherwin Williams) to update and lighten the space. The blue, gray and tan tile backsplash adds a subtle pattern and color that compliments the cabinets. Woven wood shades and brass hardware add warmth and texture to the space. We incorporated greenery in the form of succulents and plants to liven up the place. Warm wood accents and counter stools also compliment the cool gray tones.

Kitchen Design ConceptsThe builder we partnered with for this beauty original wanted to use his cabinet person (who builds and finishes on site) but the clients advocated for manufactured cabinets - and we agree with them! These homeowners were just wonderful to work with and wanted materials that were a little more "out of the box" than the standard "white kitchen" you see popping up everywhere today - and their dog, who came along to every meeting, agreed to something with longevity, and a good warranty!
The cabinets are from WW Woods, their Eclipse (Frameless, Full Access) line in the Aspen door style
- a shaker with a little detail. The perimeter kitchen and scullery cabinets are a Poplar wood with their Seagull stain finish, and the kitchen island is a Maple wood with their Soft White paint finish. The space itself was a little small, and they loved the cabinetry material, so we even paneled their built in refrigeration units to make the kitchen feel a little bigger. And the open shelving in the scullery acts as the perfect go-to pantry, without having to go through a ton of doors - it's just behind the hood wall!

We went with a minimalist, clean, industrial look that feels light, bright and airy. The island is a dark charcoal with cool undertones that coordinates with the cabinetry and transom work in both the neighboring mudroom and breakfast area. White subway tile, quartz countertops, white enamel pendants and gold fixtures complete the update. The ends of the island are shiplap material that is also used on the fireplace in the next room.
In the new mudroom, we used a fun porcelain tile on the floor to get a pop of pattern, and walnut accents add some warmth. Each child has their own cubby, and there is a spot for shoes below a long bench. Open shelving with spots for baskets provides additional storage for the room.

Carter Fox Design BuildCarter Fox Renovations did a complete remodel of this Leslieville home. Our experience in renovating older Toronto semis paid off in this house where we were required to renovate every aspect from re-engineering crooked floors to taming an underground stream below the basement.
The main floor was reconfigured to make the kitchen its centrepiece, featuring a gorgeous blue island with maximized capacity - sink, dishwasher, microwave, recycling and ample storage all contained in a modest footprint.
Upstairs we remodeled a beautiful, roomy master bath, added a vaulted ceiling to the master bedroom, installed custom millwork in the closet and hallway, repaired walls and ceilings, laid new flooring and baseboards and painted the entire house.
In the previously unfinished basement we added a second bathroom, built an enclosed pantry/wine cellar and created a home office with lots of storage.
At Carter Fox we love a challenge - the clients gave us a budget and we figured out how to achieve their goals on time and on budget. Many thanks to our team of experts who came together on this project and created spectacular results!
