More for Less RemodelingLocated in the Lafayette Square Historic District, this garage is built to strict historical guidelines and to match the existing historical residence built by Horace Bigsby a renowned steamboat captain and Mark twain's prodigy. It is no ordinary garage complete with rooftop oasis, spiral staircase, Low voltage lighting and Sonos wireless home sound system.
Degnan Design-Build-RemodelThe clients requested the rebuilding of their front porch on this older, but not historically regulated home. They had historic photos showing what the porch was originally like to provide inspiration for us. The goal was to use off-the-shelf parts that visually mimics the original appearance of the porch, rather than to create custom replicas. The project achieves these results.

Degnan Design-Build-RemodelThe scale of the railings, balusters, columns, lattice, and masonry footings all complement the rest of the home, whose character has been well preserved. Besides the photos, there was a small section of the original railing present in a back, enclosed porch which provided the measurements and pattern needed for our product specifications.

Degnan Design-Build-RemodelBecause the original porch was rotting and footings had sunk, it was on the verge of being dangerous. Our work made the front porch become fully functional and also brings it up to standard with current codes.

Bellingham Bay BuildersAfter many years of careful consideration and planning, these clients came to us with the goal of restoring this home’s original Victorian charm while also increasing its livability and efficiency. From preserving the original built-in cabinetry and fir flooring, to adding a new dormer for the contemporary master bathroom, careful measures were taken to strike this balance between historic preservation and modern upgrading. Behind the home’s new exterior claddings, meticulously designed to preserve its Victorian aesthetic, the shell was air sealed and fitted with a vented rainscreen to increase energy efficiency and durability. With careful attention paid to the relationship between natural light and finished surfaces, the once dark kitchen was re-imagined into a cheerful space that welcomes morning conversation shared over pots of coffee.
Every inch of this historical home was thoughtfully considered, prompting countless shared discussions between the home owners and ourselves. The stunning result is a testament to their clear vision and the collaborative nature of this project.

Degnan Design-Build-RemodelFiberglass structural columns support the roof system. Real wood was used for railings and balusters, and the original roof structure was fully preserved.
We rebuilt the porch underneath the existing roof. It was shored up during construction, as the structure, roof membrane, ceiling and trim board were all in great condition. This included removing the old porch below, augering & pouring new footings, building the new porch floor structure, and then fitting in the permanent structural fiberglass columns to support it.

Nature's TouchA fire feature and water feature combined make up the focal piece for the Lion's Gate hardscape. The backsplash for this feature is travertine. Hand carved in the center is a custom lion face made from Pennsylvania blue stone, containing a spout to release water. The border is hand carved out of Pennsylvania blue stone. and capped with Weston Cream. The design gives the appearance that water is shooting into dancing flames.
