Native Edge LandscapeAfter their brand new construction was completed, this family had a beautiful and comfortable home that truly fit their needs. However, this new construction lacked an outdoor living space, which left the backyard feeling stark and bare. With this blank slate, we were able to create a relaxing environment for this family to enjoy.
Faced with the challenge of using every square-inch of this small space, Native Edge was able to design a landscape that left this family worry-free. We incorporated a low maintenance composite decking system, modern raised metal planters, and a bubbling urn water feature to tie this peaceful landscape together. The poor drainage of the lot gave us the opportunity to create a striking cat walk and drainage feature, which left ample room for their vegetable and herb garden hobby. There is even a nook for the family dog to enjoy!

Eden CondensedA custom all cedar raised bed was designed and installed outside the kitchen door for easy access. It is filled with organic potting soil, organic fertilizer, and herb seedlings.
Mark S. Garff, Landscape ArchitectIn south Seattle, a tiny backyard garden needed a makeover to add usability and create a sitting area for entertaining. Raised garden beds for edible plants provide the transition between the existing deck and new patio below, eliminating the need for a railing. A firepit provides the focal point for the new patio. Angles create drama and direct flow to the steel stairs and gate. Installed June, 2014.

Nature's DesignThis back yard which includes many edibles on a open wire mesh fence has as it's core a brick patio in the shape of a fish with the stepping stones that go through a net or web shaped lawn that simulate bubbles from the top of the "fish". A very whimsical design replete a small playhouse/garden shed in the back.
LaneScapesThis raised vegetable garden was created with railroad ties. A drip irrigation system was also installed that was easy to use and adjust based on the plant selections to be grown. A decomposed granite pathway was installed around the garden and a planter bed was installed behind the garden to grow up and provide color and screening to the adjacent property.

UserNewly built vegetable garden. Beds are 4 inch cedar, pathways are river stone. Critterfence deters rabbits without detracting from the garden architecture. Support posts in the rear contain raspberries, and blueberries are freshly transplanted in the middle.

UserPlant design and installation and photography by Chris Kolb of Ark Gardens. Chris designed an edible foundation border for his clients in Sandwich, MA. It includes Witherod Viburnum, Low bush blueberry, Wintergreen, and Highbush Blueberry. All these native shrubs produce edible berries. Wintergreen is also used as a tea. It is never a challenge to plant under oak canopy when the appropriate plants are selected for the job.
FormLA LandscapingDo we need to speak to any other benefit of Western Redbud in early spring? These blooms are pollinator magnets - and delicious! As leaves fill in, they are a nearly translucent lime to apple green, allowing just the right amount of sun to break through the canopy.
