June Scott DesignThis garden was designed to celebrate panoramic views of the San Gabriel mountains. Horizontal bands of slate tile from the interior of the mid-century home wrap around the house’s perimeter and extend to the rear pool area, inviting the family outdoors. With a pool framed by mature trees, a sunken seating area, fruit trees, and a modest lawn for a young family, the landscape provides a wide range of opportunities for play, entertaining and relaxation.
Growsgreen Landscape DesignDetail of the concrete plinth. I created an angle to the plinth to suggest entry to the hot tub level below and keep it feeling more open. I have found the angles in walls and gardens really matters to be of correct scale. The concrete plinth is for a bench, buffet overflow from BBQ counter or here with planters it acts as a screen to the area below.
Dig Your Garden Landscape DesignThe front and back areas surrounding this Eichler home were updated with the mid-century modern design aesthetic in mind. The Front landscape takes on a minimalist design with architectural plants. Pincushion Tango shrub with striking orange flowers in Spring. Barrel Cactus, Artichoke Agaves, stately Thatching Reeds, a Blue Palm (Brahea 'Clara') a Mediterranean Fan Palm and other easy-care plants. The corten steel sculpture offers a striking focal point adjacent to the front doorway.
VisionScapesSet in the community of Eagle Ridge, this is a masterpiece of modern design and outdoor luxury. An exposed aggregate driveway complete with a secondary entrance was designed around the 50 to 60 year old birch tree in the front yard. The rebuilt and redesigned composite upper deck afforded an opportunity to create a space that was 100% waterproof below by using a torch on a membrane and a floating sleeper system for the upper deck. 10mm glass completes the expansive views of the backyard and the pool area. The two-sided gas fireplace offers unmatched ambiance in the hot tub with elegance in the covered sitting area directly on the adjacent side of the hot tub. The custom stainless steel spa is just steps from the expansive pool deck that surrounds the heated in ground pool. A large grass area surrounded by shrubs set in black mulch is the perfect contrast and finish this modern masterpiece.

Cathie Hong InteriorsThis artistic and design-forward family approached us at the beginning of the pandemic with a design prompt to blend their love of midcentury modern design with their Caribbean roots. With her parents originating from Trinidad & Tobago and his parents from Jamaica, they wanted their home to be an authentic representation of their heritage, with a midcentury modern twist. We found inspiration from a colorful Trinidad & Tobago tourism poster that they already owned and carried the tropical colors throughout the house — rich blues in the main bathroom, deep greens and oranges in the powder bathroom, mustard yellow in the dining room and guest bathroom, and sage green in the kitchen. This project was featured on Dwell in January 2022.
