This client's home backs up to a beautiful native Beech and Tulip woodland with an intermittent stream running through the middle of the site. After mistakenly over-clearing the natural forest saplings, the once lush woods was now bare. Called in to help re-vegetate the woodland, we designed and created a new path network through the woodland so that the client could enjoy and experience their new garden. Planted with large masses of native perennials, shade grasses and spring bulbs this back yard is now lush once again. Our client’s wanted classically styled gardens, built upon a semi-formal framework. They requested level spaces for the kids to play on and a swimming pool, which was to be the hero of the project. The result speaks for itself. This large garden is made up of different ‘pockets’ – a vegetable garden, formal front garden, large grassed area for the kids to play, a pool area, a patio for entertaining and a small relaxation garden that houses a stunning water feature. Our planting schedule included Viburnum, Japanese Box Hedging, Hydrangea’s, Gardenia’s and Ornamental Pear trees. After completing an interior remodel for this mid-century home in the South Salem hills, we revived the old, rundown backyard and transformed it into an outdoor living room that reflects the openness of the new interior living space. We tied the outside and inside together to create a cohesive connection between the two. The yard was spread out with multiple elevations and tiers, throughout which we used to create “outdoor rooms” with separate seating, eating and gardening areas that flowed seamlessly from one to another. We installed a fire pit in the seating area, built-in pizza oven, wok and bar-b-que in the outdoor kitchen, and a soaking tub on the lower deck. The concrete dining table doubled as a ping pong table and required a boom truck to lift the pieces over the house and into the back yard. The result is an outdoor sanctuary the homeowners can effortlessly enjoy year-round.

Il giardino moderno è contraddistinto da linee minimali e ben definite. Il layout è netto e lo spazio viene delimitato on estrema precisione. Nel giardino moderno si trova spesso una piscina. Accanto, alcuni alberi a fare ombra, geometricamente potati.

Come sfruttare gli ornamenti decorativi per arredare un giardino

Utilizzandoli nel modo corretto e posizionandoli con cura e senso pratico, gli ornamenti da giardino possono dare quel tocco in più al tuo spazio esterno. Un tavolo e qualche sedia, accompagnati da lanterne da appendere ai rami di un albero oppure al porticato, possono dare quel senso di serenità ricercato. Attenzione però allo stile: qualsiasi sceglierai, avrà un forte impatto sul look del tuo ambiente. È opportuno quindi che sia coerente con gli altri elementi decorativi, sia del giardino stesso che dell'esterno della casa. Un cancello in legno o in ferro battuto che si apre su un piccolo sentiero in pietre accompagnerà i tuoi ospiti all'interno del tuo giardino, guidandoli fino all'ingresso di casa. Lungo il percorso, l'ospite potrà incontrare una panca sulla destra, un'aiuola decorata con i tuoi fiori preferiti sulla sinistra, oppure una staccionata. Un angolo con il barbecue offrirà la possibilità di pranzi e cene estive all’aria aperta con amici e parenti, mentre uno spazio di gioco lo renderà il posto preferito dei bambini. Se il vostro giardino è particolarmente esposto al sole, può essere utile installare un pergolato o un gazebo, per poterlo sfruttare anche durante le ore più calde.
