The design had to enhance the relationship with the bold, contemporary architecture and open up a dialogue with the wild green space beyond its boundaries. The London Gardener LtdWe remodelled a garden we installed some 5 years earlier as the children had grown older and our client wanted an outdoor room to use as a gym, snug and have a separate area within the pod for garden storage. Podspace were commissioned to design a bespoke pod to fully utilise the width of the garden. We then worked our new planting around to give a generous lounge area in which to enjoy the sun, while still keeping the dining area close to the house. A wide path was used to connect the spaces and many of our original and now mature plants were kept. We added new planting borders which were planted with more structural and varied evergreens to create 'cloud' hedges.
Maximize DesignThe cedar seating is underplanted with shade tolerant plants like ferns and Japanese Pachysandra.
A small blade water feature in the raised bed provides some sound backdrop to distract from street and other background noises.
Archer ServicesThree tiers of flower beds have been crafted from stone and stone pavers to create a magical look and feel. A multitude of textures and colors fill the beds, inviting butterflies and passersby to stop and enjoy.
greencube garden and landscape designThis tiny garden has been transformed using modern linear trellising, eco deck and sandstone plank paving, planted with a modern mix creating interest and structure in a small space.
We have used Western Red Cedar a modern low maintenance collection of plants and sandstone plank paving fused together with a mulch or various size pebbles and boulders.

An expansive back yard landscape with several mature oak trees and a stunning Golden Locust tree has been transformed into a welcoming outdoor retreat. The renovations include a wraparound deck, an expansive travertine natural stone patio, stairways and pathways along with concrete retaining walls and column accents with dramatic planters. The pathways meander throughout the landscape... some with travertine stepping stones and gravel and those below the majestic oaks left natural with fallen leaves. Raised vegetable beds and fruit trees occupy some of the sunniest areas of the landscape. A variety of low-water and low-maintenance plants for both sunny and shady areas include several succulents, grasses, CA natives and other site-appropriate Mediterranean plants complimented by a variety of boulders. Ground One Landscape Design + BuildThis visually simple, modern solution is unique within its suburban context, and gives this family the custom landscape of their dreams. The homeowners’ wish list included a modern design and clearly defined spaces: a larger dining patio, firepit patio, hot tub, and a 4-season sport court (which gets flooded for ice hockey in the winter).
Circulation and screening were key in Ground One’s landscape design. A sport court could overwhelm the entire backyard, so it was raised three feet above the primary backyard to physically separate different spaces, and minimize its visual impact. Rectangular bluestone in a running bond pattern was used in all the gathering spaces (dining, firepit, hot tub). Bluestone walls reinforce a simple material palette.
A larger dining patio was installed near the house for greater entertaining flexibility. Plank paver paths connect to a private hot tub area and allow kids to don hockey gear and enter the sport court without messing up the house. The firepit patio is at the back of the property, nestled into the existing hillside under a large oak and below the sport court terrace.
Plantings reinforce the geometry of each gathering space, provide focal points, and create layers of screening and separation from any given vantage point. Hardy species were selected for their low-maintenance requirements and various seasons of interest. Landscape lighting was incorporated to provide way finding between the patios, accent various hardscape elements, and highlight the trees.
