French Ceiling Details
30. Heavily layered crown/dentil molds(taken from their similarity to teeth, and I have to ask, what kind of self respecting dentist wouldn't want "dentil" molding somewhere in there home? (but not a requirement, this kind of ornate does not come without a commitment, but it is lovely, if this is your thing).
20. Drops are very useful when very high ceilings exist in rooms with cabinetry, when a client does not wish for the cabinet to be open to above (dust catchers some say, I like them if my clients like them, and they are nice if one appreciates curio space, and lighting/lightness, but too much empty space above cabinetry looks, well, empty).
19. Another subtle tray w/tongue and groove and double crown mold (at tray and ceiling perim).
18. Simple drop w/crown, provides an economical way to add depth and lighting; sometimes simple is good.
Multi-level ceiling "drops" (framed boxes around the ceiling perimeter are what create ceiling trays), with crown mold below all. Coffers, on the other hand, are cut into the ceiling, and are typically shaped like the interior of a box lid, or coffer.
Crown Molding Perimeter is not run up "hard" against the ceiling, but held below 4/6 inches, and this creates the illusion of a flat ceiling coffer. Sometimes, these dropped crowns are used in conjunction with perimeter lighting to create a glow.
15. Just a sample transition from a kitchen to a great room. Ours could be similar, or much different.
14. Unadorned Tray
13. Just let me know if "Rococco" does it for you and we'll go there ;)
12. Deep Crown Molding @ perimeter of a flat ceiling, w/ very subtle molding appliques that create sectional ceiling details without the use of drops/trays/coffers.
11. Deep Tray (flat) w/Molding, and Confident Drop @ Perimeter, and the abutting architectural woodwork that covers the walls "holds up" the motif, without the need for ceiling perimeter crown molding.
10. At the extreme end of trays; Deep Tray, Crown Ceil. Perim, parts of our home will read this high.
