Hampstead Garden DesignOur client in Hampstead Garden Suburb, north London, commissioned us to design a garden which creates spaces for entertaining, combined with plenty of space for play. The design and materials used for the garden complement the architecture of the house, situated in a beautiful conservation area, whilst also meeting the needs of a modern family. The planting scheme is designed to be pretty, whilst also including evergreen structure to create interest throughout the year.

Harmony Design NorthwestTo achieve a formal style, traditional materials and linear designs were used. The cracked concrete driveway was replaced with matching brick, and the curved walkway was straightened. The front entry was resurfaced with red clay brick veneer to create a cohesive look.
Boxwoods border the front walkway, entry, patios, and driveway, forming a low hedge. The red clay brick pavers in a herringbone pattern add a timeless appeal to the house.
Small garden beds feature white-blooming favorites like Hydrangea arborescens Annabelle’, Gardenia jasminoides ‘Kleim’s Hardy,’ and Liriope muscari ‘Monroe’s White.’ For privacy, Buxus sempervirens ‘Skywalker’ was chosen for hedging.

M A Jaworski Landscape DesignAs fall transitions to winter, berries change from green to bright red, where they will glow brilliantly during the winter, providing food for the birds when they need it most. Winterberry shrubs enjoy a sunny but moist location for best growing conditions. It's also important to have both male and female plants (about a 1:4 ratio), and for them to have the same period of pollen receptivity for the female and pollen production for the male, otherwise there will be a suboptimal production of berries (check the details with your local nursery, horticulturalist or landscape designer or landscape architect). Winterberry shrubs take time to produce their berries, so the sooner they are planted, the better.
