We designed this covered porch with the outdoor kitchen at one end and the outdoor fireplace at the other end. The wood-burning fireplace has room for a large-screen TV over the mantel. We designed the fireplace with firewood boxes to hold plenty of wood on either side of the hearth. The outdoor kitchen is U-shaped and contains a built-in area to house the homeowners’ Traeger smoker/grill.

For the ceiling of the patio cover and deck/porch cover, we used Synergy Wood’s beautiful prefinished pine. Synergy Wood is a favorite of ours, and we have used it on many ceilings under porch covers and patio covers. We used stained cedar for the privacy walls and the posts supporting the new deck.

Bordering this elegant patio is a sweeping, curved outdoor kitchen with granite countertops. We used stacked stone to build the surround for the appliances. Notice the contrasting color insets for the granite countertops in the “eat in” kitchen and bar area.

The pavers selected by the homeowners are Unilock’s Bristol Valley pavers in the steel mountain color, which is a beautifully subtle color blend. The rounded pavers along the edges of the walkway leading from the first door to the main patio area, and around the planter area by the wall, are Unilock Brussels Fullnose pavers. These rounded pavers in a lighter color provide contrast and soften the edges of the curved walkway and planter.

Archadeck of Columbus Delivers Year-Round Enjoyment with a 3-Season Room/Patio/Hardscape/Fire Pit Combination in Dublin, OH
Sometimes a tired, aging wooden deck just needs to be RE-tired, as in “retired,” as in replaced by a patio. That was the case for these Dublin, OH, homeowners who decided to go with a fresh, new paver patio and hardscape from Archadeck of Columbus instead of redecking or having a new deck installed. They also upgraded their screened porch by turning it into a 3-season room. Their instincts were good. Look how this stunning patio and 3-season room combination space has brought new life to their back yard!

We tied the new deck/porch cover into the roofline of the home. The new deck begins at the edge of the patio, giving the homeowners a deck and patio combination for multiple uses.

This elegant outdoor living space features plant material (Mondo grass), between the gaps of this intricate stain and seal patio. The fever pitch of the project is the natural stone fire pit taking center stage in this tranquil oasis.

This stunning project, a combination hardscape, deck, pergola and fire pit project in the Ballantrae subdivision of Dublin, Ohio, is a work of art.
We built the two pergolas with cedar and stained them to match the decking. The pergolas are more decorative than functional. You can see the top of each pergola consists of two long beams topped with a series of shorter rafters. A pergola designed to cast maximum shade would have a third element on top, a series of thinner slats running across the rafters. Here, the larger pergola serves to define the primary dining area, and the smaller one enforces the boundary at the edge of the patio.

And the pergola over the bar area! This has to be one of our favorite pergolas. It’s made of cedar timbers that play with the sunlight and cast dynamic shadows. It defines the dining and bar area dramatically, and it will provide the diners with some shade.

Now for the hardscapes! Most of the pavers are from Oberfields, and the largest portion of the patio, called the field, features pavers from Oberfields’ Grand Milestone line in the Timeless color. Oberfields describes them as “long linear pavers that mimic wood planks.” That’s the effect the homeowners wanted to capture.

The homeowners wanted to add a pergola for shade over their hot tub and the adjacent seating area. For additional comfort, they wanted a way to hang a ceiling fan safely in this space. A pergola provides the perfect place for a ceiling fan because we can run electrical wiring through it inconspicuously. Finally, they wanted to add a gas-burning fire pit next to the seating area for outdoor entertaining and poolside ambiance after dark.

The patio roof’s shingles match those of the home. The beautiful, tongue-and-groove wood ceiling features recessed lighting and four ceiling fans. An area this large needs more than the customary one or two ceiling fans. Notice that a portion of this patio is not covered. The homeowners can enjoy sitting in the sunshine on cooler days, and they have the option to sit out under the stars at night. Most of the supporting posts are designed as columns wrapped in cedar, while two in the outdoor kitchen area are wrapped in stone to match the kitchen and fireplace stonework.

For the patio cover, we designed a roof with a stunning open-gable end. We used tongue and groove pine for the ceiling and wrapped all of the beams in cedar and posts in AZEK. If you look closely, you can see the steps we built for the doorway leading into the home. We used low-maintenance AZEK for the steps, an extremely durable material perfect for any high-traffic area. Also, bringing indoor comforts outdoors, we installed recessed can lights in the ceiling as well as everyone’s favorite, the ceiling fan.
