Christy Webber LandscapesYour average two-car garage offers only 400 square feet of roof deck, but that doesn’t mean it can’t provide an array of outdoor functions and features to suit your everyday needs. In this example, our design brief required just that. As a busy professional couple, the roof deck needed to offer both a peaceful space to work from home, as well as a comfortable space to get away from work, entertain and relax. To that end, the roof offers a number of surfaces to set up a laptop and then immediately forget any work woes and fire-up the grill, pour a glass of wine, call some friends over (or not) and wind down. And with the addition of retractable outdoor canopies and curtains, the space becomes an adjustable enclave to its densely populated urban surroundings.

Amber Freda Garden DesignCheck out the amazing skyline views from this roof deck in Brooklyn heights. We chose hardy, low maintenance plantings that would complement the view, rather than compete with it. Our design included a mix of high contrast black and white planters in a mix of straight lines and sphere shapes. David Keegan Garden Design & Landscape ConsultancyRoof gardens are a great way to utilise not only a flat rood but the elevated views that generally go with them. I designed this roof garden in Alderley Edge to do exactly that as it affords sweeping views out to the open countryside. The addition of an outdoor kitchen in the designs including a double fridge and fully plumbed in sink makes this a great all-round space for entertaining whilst the pergola offers some useful shade from the sun and rain. The addition of the wood burner pizza bread oven also adds a cosy spot to sit with blazing flames adding a warming glow to a chilly evening. In the before picture the roof footprint for the roof garden was a lot smaller but this was increased as pert of a major renovation of the house. The raised bed planters are not only filled with ornamental plants but also contain a host of herbs for use in cooking making the planting scheme an interactive addition to the overall aesthetic. The roof garden itself site within a much larger project including a freshly designer orchard and wildflower meadow. Designs for ground level are due to be installed over the coming months. New York Plantings Garden Designcustom built plywood planter box on rooftop garden with bamboo fencing, The concept by NY landscape architect of informal penthouse garden deck that a few friends getting together at a Hamptons beach cottage with a few beers, building a deck, plywood planters and indigenous plantings was built by New York Plantings Garden Designers and Landscape contractors NYC. This Greenroof fusion rooftop deck and garden combine the traditional planters typical of any roof or terrace garden with a green roof style real sod lawn in the center. This Brooklyn roof garden utilizing environmentally responsible materials such as custom milled black locust decking from nearby Long Island. This user friendly, low maintenance green space provides a perfect get away from the busy streets below. The carpentry design is rugged and tidy with concrete roof tiles to create a very nice effect and contrast different areas. The main feature being a small hillock in the center of the space is a great place to gather on the lawn with friends and family. The homeowner plans to watch movies projected on the side of the building while lounging on her private lawn late at night high above the city.

KCreative InteriorsLocated just steps from Bondi beach this amazing penthouse had the outdoor space and the view ideal for entertaining or just sitting back and relaxing. KCreative Interiors were employed to give this balcony a tropical balcony setting make-over and assist with the art selection for the entry stairwell. We whitewashed the balcony and painted existing planter box and balustrades dark to add depth and contrast. Setting the perfect backdrop for this lush tropical garden. We created different seating areas to sit back and enjoy different aspects of this space. An oversized Vikki Lee art piece was commissioned to fill the void in the stairwell.
