White Oak Alcove Home Office
The doors and paneling were all milled from 5/4 rustic white oak for beauty and durability. The precision butt hinges are hand mortised into the solid frames and doors with a steady hand and a very sharp chisel, just as they were done when this county was founded. The screws that hold the hinges on are coated in beeswax and hand driven, one revolution at a time. It's a timely process but well worth the final product.
The finish is custom hand mix of clay pigments, raw umber and burnt sienna, to match antique furniture in the same room. We only use water based dye stains because no other finish can bring out the clarity and depth of the grain.
