Making Room for PeaceIt’s the little things such as the pie-safe bar and the painted olive green ceiling, that make this room stand out. The juxtaposition ensures that her spaces are up-to-date while remaining timeless.
Sunspace Design, Inc.Not far from the Maine coastline, this renovation project showcases the power of creative reimagining. With an elevated deck in need of replacement, the clients envisioned a new space that would fill with sunshine and offer them the potential to nurture plants throughout the year. Offering full-service design and construction, Sunspace stepped in to make it happen.
The Sunspace team began by replacing the existing deck structure, creating a solid, raised, insulated foundation that would receive the greenhouse addition. A high-quality aluminum frame was chosen for its durability and sleek lines, blending with the home's existing architecture and fitting snugly into the corner of the exterior walls. The generous use of insulated glass floods the interior with natural light while maintaining a comfortable growing environment all year round.
Functionality within a small space is key in this design. Venting windows in the lower sections and operable roof vents ensure proper airflow and temperature control, essential for a thriving plant collection. The interior is thoughtfully finished with planting benches and shelving to establish an organized, inviting workspace. And with direct access from the home, a trip to the greenhouse is an effortless escape for the clients, a world of vibrant growth never further than a few steps away.

The vibrant pops made it serene and playful for this young family to enjoy for the spring, summer, and fall seasons.
Making Room for PeaceWork in progress it may be (the Hurt’s are currently finishing up building wrap-around seating along the screened edge of the sun-room), this room is a gem. With floor-to-ceiling windows spanning the majority of the space, sunlight is able to stream in throughout the day, creating a warmth and a glow.

Making Room for PeaceIf you had to take a poll on the favorite room in the Hurt’s house it would most likely be the sun-room. Right off the kitchen and the den, this room has the most beautiful views of the creek out back, which rides up along the property. “We have always wanted a water view, but never thought that it would be in our budget, but this house proved us wrong! This place was not love at first sight. We consider this house to be OUR diamond in the rough. With a lot of blood, sweat and tears, we are slowly transforming this house into our home. It is definitely a work in progress!”
