Leafcutter Bee on Prairie Sunflower
This distinctive wild bee is from the family 'Megachilidae' also known as a leafcutter bee. While they collect flower pollen like other bees, the female bees are distinguished by the unique habit of cutting out a circle of a leaf, then chewing it up to use as sealant over her egg chambers.
