Ecoscape Environmental DesignStairways are technically a pathway that gains elevation by steps. Depending on the slope and grade of your property, stairs can provide both a functional and aesthetic value in landscape design. In Colorado, plentiful redstone is a natural choice for durability (the elements are fierce here!). Sometimes incorporating a couple of stone stairs in an area near the house can make a world of difference in the ease of going to other parts of the yard. (Think trips to the compost pile or the stacked firewood area away from the house.) People with outdoor wooden stairs, especially in mountain communities, face spending a lot of money on upkeep, or worse, danger with rotting wood. When making upgrades to your landscape, ask the question: would the flow of my yard be improved by some robust stone stairs?

Northwest Native Landscapes LLCRainwater is celebrated as the focal point in this backyard garden. The angled deck provides enough space for a morning coffee, then transitions down onto a natural stone patio for large gatherings. A deep plant bed was created against the garage to showcase plant textures and soften the patio space. The curved edge of the patio mimics the irregular shape of the corner rain garden, with a gently sloping lawn in between the two spaces. Natural boulders form the edge of the rain garden, while swaths of rushes and other water-loving plants provide all season interest.
FormLA LandscapingThe garden isn't completely lawn-free. It hosts an IdealMow lawn of native Dune Sedge. It thrives with no chemical fertilizers or pesticides and uses only 20 percent of the water required by a turf grass lawn. A "smart" subsurface, hydrozoned drip irrigation system on weather based controllers delivers exactly what the hydrozoned foliage needs, right to its roots. This aids foliage health and eliminates water loss to evaporation.
To keep its lawn-like appearance, the grass needs mowing only a few times a year. If left to grow, it forms true-green waves.

Groundworks IncThis Rear Garden originally designed by Kim Hoyt RLA was re- planted with a palette of easy care perennials , ground-cover and small trees. The Bluetone patio accented by brick complements the original stacked stone wall. Large urns and bowls filled with evergreens provide a focal point in the space. Custom BBQ and dining seat maximize the use of space in this urban garden. The natural bamboo fence provides privacy and texture without overwhelming the space.
