Add Color and Texture
This hillside needed plants that will hold the soil but add color and texture to the back yard. They had to be tough drought tolerant plants to handle the direct hot sun in summer. Near the rock fountain California grey Rush adds the element of a water habitat but is a drought tolerant plant once established. A drift of Blue Fescue moves across the hillside in a wave. A mix of Yarrow, Lamb's Ear, Penstemon, Manzanita, Santa Barbara Daisy, Coprosma 'Tequila Sunrise', Kaleidoscope Abelia and Autumn Sage give color along the bottom. The homeowner' sculpture is placed on a pedestal. Balancing each side of the rock fountain is a Purple Smoke Tree and lining the top wall are Cream Delight New Zealand Flax.
