“Jill’s engineering background is her secret weapon to the perfect kitchen design. I knew that she would be able to create an extremely functional kitchen out of our existing space. But having seen the beautiful kitchens that Jill has designed, we were skeptical that she would not be able to design our kitchen within our limited budget. With kids in college, we had decided not to do the dream kitchen that we had planned. Jill scaled back the cost of the kitchen without sacrificing the design.
Not only was the kitchen within the budget, it is more beautiful than we could have ever imagined. The cabinets from Plain & Fancy are absolutely gorgeous and of the finest craftsmanship. The details that Jill has chosen have made all of the difference in the design of the kitchen and its functionality. She helped us chose our contractors as well and was there every step of the way making changes that make the kitchen truly custom. We reworked the space to better suit our families needs and also created a fantastic area for entertaining. “We love our new kitchen. Open Door Building Solutions was a joy to work with from the start.
Emily started by asking all the questions we hadn't considered. How were we going to use the space? What's most important to us? She counseled us about many things we had overlooked things like door closures, hinges and the right quality cabinetry to fit in our budget. The helped us prioritize where to spend our money and where we could save.
The design process was longer than I anticipated, but the OBDS team was patient as we weighed our options. They answered our questions, listened to our requests and quickly adjusted plans accordingly. We had a lot of questions, about everything, but calls and emails were responded to promptly and I never felt like a burden.
Once we decided on the final design, materials etc., Emily reviewed our complete order in detail, confirmed pricing and submitted it to the cabinet manufaturer. Our cabinets arrived a week early with no issues.
The installation process was relatively seamless, save for a few issues with our house (not the cabinets). Once the cabinets were in place, Open Door brought us several counter samples based on what we liked and our budget. She helped coordinate our granite order and ensured that everything was in place for timely delivery.
My wife and I enjoy cooking and entertaining. Our new kitchen is an attractive and functional place where we can do both. When it comes time to remodel our bathroom, we will definitely call Emily and Open Door Building Solutions again.”

“Norm does great work and is very professional. We initially hired him to do a nursery for our first born in 2011 which included framing the windows, wainscoting, crown molding and paint. We loved the work and so much we had him back to do the same for our second child's room in 2013.
Lastly we had Norm do a full remodel of our unfinished basement in 2014. This included having Bilco doors installed, all framing, insulating, electrical, drywall and painting. He even repiped our existing wood pellet stove to meet code. Norm also helped me relocate our outdoor swing set which had to moved to install the Bilco doors.”

“Dan did a great job for us at our cabin. He designed furniture that wraps around in a loft bedroom which includes custom sized cabinetry to accommodate various sized hunting and fishing equipment. Our queen bed with built in night stands has drawers underneath for additional storage. Hickory was used and careful stain selections made the look perfect for our vacation home! We hired Dan again to customize our kitchen island and pantry. Great choice for high quality within our budget!”
