“Doug Cutler is the ultimate professional. His knowledge of architecture and modular building is superb. We are building a modular house on an existing foundation with some modifications. Doug is detailed oriented and can explain the reasons behind his suggestions. He will make suggestions, but realizes the customer must be happy with the end product and must make the final decisions. His manner of doing business is professional and timely. EMails and phone class are returned the next day. Very easy to work with. He is very aware and trying to stay within our budget. We are almost done with our home design.”

“We hired Dan and his company to do a renovation on our 1836 era home. They designed an open kitchen floorplan, added a stone fireplace, a butler's pantry, and office, and reconfigured our back entry and laundry room. They also added another bathroom upstairs and extended our patio outside. I loved that he reused original materials and also sourced beams, etc. that matched the home. (They found an original floor beam that was not in good enough shape to continue support, so they replaced this and he suggested using the good part of this beam as our new mantle. It looks great and I love using an original beam in a prominent place in the new room.) The design gave us an updated and more efficient way to use our old house, while keeping with the traditional look and feel. We also really liked the way Dan charged for his services. Instead of a percentage of the total job - which creates the incentive for the architect to increase the size of the job, Dan charged by the hour of his time. We could call him at any point in the job to come oversee the contractor or consult. And were always happy with his involvement. We felt that he and his firm were a great value.”

Ask him for photos of our award-winning kitchen. The details and custom cabinetry are superb - he listened to our needs and wants, and got it right!”

Despite the difficult circumstances, he made us feel at ease from the beginning, and was a calming influence through every step of the project. We were very satisfied with the design and the finished product, but equally important, I want to emphasize that Mr. Baker was professional, trustworthy, honest, reliable, and listened closely to our requirements. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is seeking excellent architectural work.”

“When my husband and I took on the project of completely renovating an 1846 Greek Revival house in the back country of Greenwich, we ran into difficulties with the architect we had hired. Doug VanderHorn came to our rescue! Many architects might have been unwilling to take on a project that had already started, but Doug, to my everlasting gratitude, not only agreed to work with us, but brought fresh, new, creative and improved ideas to the table. His taste is impeccable and he ended up helping me with all kinds of related issue like bathroom tiles, special effects in moldings and fireplaces and placement of furniture in a difficult room. “We hired Don on the recommendation of a neighbor for a major renovation of our 1919 Craftsman style bungalow into a much larger house and could not have been happier. We appreciated Don's calm, pleasant demeanor, exceptional professionalism and attention to detail. Our builder told us Don's plans were among the most detailed and flawless he's ever received; an element that made the construction process seamless. Although he's certainly worked on bigger budget builds, Don was respectful of our desire to create a "dream home" --not a McMansion--that fit into the overall landscape of our neighborhood and didn't overwhelm our property or budget. Still, he managed to create plans for an addition that incorporated many of our wants and desires yet was respectful of its vintage pedigree. We love our "new" home and would hire Don again in a heartbeat.”
