Susie Hersker is an award winning designer, specializing in luxury residential interior design. She offers a full range of interior design services for new construction and remodels, including space planning, materials specifications, colorization, furniture selection and placement, custom furniture designs, and art consultation. Regardless of style, from contemporary to traditional to southwest, comfort and quality are high on her list of priorities. Each project is unique and reflects the personal taste, style and requirements of the client. Her custom furniture designs are made by local artisans and wood workers. 'Made in America' is an important part of her design philosophy. Susie feels that her most important job as a designer is to listen carefully to each individual client’s expressed desires, and to interpret their dreams to make their home a reflection of their personality and lifestyle. She is well known for harmonizing the setting of the home with the architecture and the interior colors and furnishings. In addition to working in Arizona, Susie has worked on homes across the country from Chicago to San Francisco, from Santa Barbara to Vail, from Minneapolis to Santa Fe. “The greatest compliment I can receive is to be engaged to create a second, third or fourth home for the same client”. Susie's favorite part of the job is getting to know some fascinating and very special people – her clients. Susie is a fully accredited and professional member of ASID, and has a Bachelor of Fine Art degree in Interior Design. In addition to numerous furniture design awards, she received the prestigious 'Master of the Southwest" award in 2007 for Interior Design.

I have worked with Susie Hersker and Elaine Rykman on countless jobs during the last 20 plus years. These two work together like a well oiled idea machine . Susie/Elaine have a vast knowledge of time-honored decor staples as well as what happening with the latest interior design trends. Susan Hersker is an exceptionally talented interior designer that we have worked with on more than one occasion. Her approach, as is clear from her idea books is holistic and this is very gratifying as Susan is able to incorporate our hardware and furniture designs and integrate them beautifully with her sections of fabric and art. Her eye for detail and her use of color is simply amazing and her ability to use color to compliment the local landscape is wonderful.

When we moved to Arizona I was referred to Design Directives. For the last 5 years Susie and Elaine have been working on large scale projects and smaller ones. Each one of them have been just the right designs. They have a wealth of resources both here and around the country. They can flex into any type of design work as they don't have a single look in all their homes. They are highly professional but fun to be around with their creative thoughts. There were times that we could not find what we were looking for and they would get out their art paper and design what we were looking for and have all the people and places to have the work done....from painting to building beautiful furniture to putting the perfect accessory in place for the finishing touches. I have so much confidence in their ability that many times I will tell them to decide what finish or final color should be selected and I have never been disappointed!

Their talent and depth of knowledge easily tackles challenges small and large- from construction to final installation and anything in between. They assume full responsibility for the timely completion of tasks and have resources available to provide a full range of services from hanging art to custom designed furniture. The client is relieved of the burden of "figuring it out", they handle it all, and with care. They work within budgets and deadlines. They listen to their clients and respond to the client needs, carefully guiding them to make good choices. Additionally, the administrative support service that manages orders, billing, and coordination is top quality and highly organized. Their years of experience show in the work that they do. Susie and Elaine are two of the MOST personable designers to work with. They really had a knack for getting to know me, my style and what would turn out best. They communicate well between vendors and seem to have the hookup to find unique pieces that fit my home. I feel like my home turned out warm, unique and very me. Thanks Susie and Elaine!

Being from outside the Scottsdale area we were most fortunate to find and hire Susan Hersker to help us with the interiors of the Southwest Contemporary home we built around 2011-12. Susie's many years of experience and knowledge of manufacturers and local craftsmen made our home unique, comfortable, and practical. Susie herself designed many of the special furnishings in our home and brought in outside craftspeople to help with other design elements. These special touches draw comments from everyone who visits our home. Susie and Elaine gave us excellent guidance as we selected couches, chairs, tables, etc. from various manufacturers. And if something wasn't as we'd ordered they followed up and made sure it was corrected. Three years later we still call on Susie on occasion to help us with accessory and art selection and installation. Susie is a pro and working with her is easy and delightful.

We thoroughly enjoyed working with Susie and Elaine. Their ideas were creative and the end result has been very comfortable. Our home includes so many interesting pieces because of their excellent relationship with so many area vendors. Custom made rugs and furniture all arrived looking just as we envisioned. They were always organized and ready to work with us each time we were in town.
