The Palisades of Mount Adams: Model Kitchen
The model kitchen for the Palisades needed to address four common objectives:
1. Demonstrate the creative use of the developer’s standard finish and appliance package.
2. Maintain a “modern” appearance, consistent with the building’s image, but appeal to
both traditional and contemporary buyers.
3. Exploit the amenities of the project and the model unit.
4. Create a kitchen that is not only practical, but memorable.
To meet these objectives, we first chose to reorient the island allowing the cook to directly experience the view to the city. Two single ovens were chosen providing “right height” ovens, microwave and warming drawer in a baking center. The granite top of the island was turned down to anchor the island and eating area, avoiding the “cabinets in the middle of the room” look. The full-overlay doors of the cabinets were given a more traditional beaded style and rail appearance and a hutch was added for china. The oversize custom hood and stainless refrigerator complete the composition.
The east wall, separating the kitchen from a storage room, was originally scheduled to receive a wet bar. Seizing this unexpected opportunity, the designers captured the raised floor space remaining from an elevator override for a wine cellar. The wall above the bar could now access this unique “found” amenity.
