Low-thickness porcelain stoneware for cabinet doors, a striking solution
Low-thickness porcelain stoneware is made from a ceramic paste cooked at 1150 / 1250 C° and then cooled to room temperature (vitrification).
It is often used in modern environments for a contemporary look that is rather urban and industrial, but it can also be used to create more traditional, rustic atmospheres, country and ecological.
This striking solution can be applied to Scenery and LiberaMente kitchen models.
Why choosing porcelain stoneware in the kitchen?
Because stoneware is so strong: it's a material resistant to cuts, abrasions, water and temperature changes, it will not deform and it guarantees an exceptionally long life for surfaces.
Because it's widely used for flooring and washable work surfaces. This is why it is particularly well suited for use in the kitchen.
Because it's perfect for unprecedented combinations, playing on colours and workings. It offers sensations that reward touch and sight, thanks to the variations of robustness and lightness, continuity and intervals. It's a material that, in addition to its beauty, offers the wealth of possibilities for matching worktops and doors.
Gres adds value and, when combined with wooden stains, interprets timeless, versatile elegance.
"Open space" stoneware facing illuminates and underlines technological elements in glass and aluminium and ensures effective contrasts with the Vintage Oak finish. This detailed view of the bottom-hinged door shows off the edge-to-edge stoneware facing, which is recommended for those that prefer a persistent “affinity” between surfaces.
Symmetry and precision, these are the most evident geometrical aspects of this spacious composition that welcomes and surrounds you with its pleasant elements and essential accessories.
A minimalist combination of geometry, functionality and compositional freedom. “Family size” design that thinks ahead, expanding the possibilities of the space and interpreting it in a personal way.
Gres expands the perception of volumes of the wall cladding: from the extensive worktop for the processing, cooking and washing area, it moves in a balanced, elegant fashion to the wall units, the formal order of the design, guaranteed by a perfect alternation of dark and light and rectangular and square forms. The “unexpected” inclusion of the oak breakfast bar is a pleasant intrusion.
This composition shows how the stoneware can be fitted onto a door supported and surrounded by a light frame that gives the panels an interesting graphic effect.

South Cove Residence
Shelburne, Vermont
This 15 acre site is located on the southern end of historic Shelburne Farms, a property originally designed by Frederick Law Olmstead for the Vanderbilt / Webb family. The site design attempts to soften the formal, classical character of the house with a minimal approach to the landscape. The stone and wood house is sited to enjoy both the southern and westerly views while integrating within the rolling agrarian landscape. The design creates a series of outdoor spaces which through classic geometry fade away into the more rugged lakeshore. A simple, yet elegant bluestone terrace bordered by perennials and a low stonewall, creates a space for entertaining on the south side of the house. Large trees of 8" and 10" caliper were planted to add a feeling of maturity to the landscape while creating a sense of intimate scale.

In 1960, Boston architect Jack Sarness thoughtfully designed this custom contemporary home around a sculptural outcrop of exposed native rock. The ledge is celebrated indoors and out as dramatic floor to ceiling windows capture and frame picturesque images of the stone. A multi-phased master plan was commissioned by the clients, (a busy professional couple who enjoy maintaining their own property), that builds upon the existing geometry of the house––the goal is to translate the interior qualities of transparency and light into the landscape.
At one end of the garden, a scattered arrangement of existing deciduous trees spill down a west-facing slope contained by an existing, rugged fieldstone wall. A fence crafted from white cedar horizontal rails complements the angular roof of the house and provides privacy along one edge of the property. Excess water drains into a bed of rounded river stones, and a generously sized, existing flagstone patio hosts a collection of moveable planters. An open lawn is bordered by planting beds filled with a great collection of plants with unexpected textures, patterns, and colors.
Exterior Worlds Landscaping & Design
We were contacted by a family named Pesek who lived near Memorial Drive on the West side of Houston. They lived in a stately home built in the late 1950’s. Many years back, they had contracted a local pool company to install an old lagoon-style pool, which they had since grown tired of. When they initially called us, they wanted to know if we could build them an outdoor room at the far end of the swimming pool. We scheduled a free consultation at a time convenient to them, and we drove out to their residence to take a look at the property.
After a quick survey of the back yard, rear of the home, and the swimming pool, we determined that building an outdoor room as an addition to their existing landscaping design would not bring them the results they expected. The pool was visibly dated with an early “70’s” look, which not only clashed with the late 50’s style of home architecture, but guaranteed an even greater clash with any modern-style outdoor room we constructed. Luckily for the Peseks, we offered an even better landscaping plan than the one they had hoped for.
We proposed the construction of a new outdoor room and an entirely new swimming pool. Both of these new structures would be built around the classical geometry of proportional right angles. This would allow a very modern design to compliment an older home, because basic geometric patterns are universal in many architectural designs used throughout history. In this case, both the swimming pool and the outdoor rooms were designed as interrelated quadrilateral forms with proportional right angles that created the illusion of lengthened distance and a sense of Classical elegance. This proved a perfect complement to a house that had originally been built as a symbolic emblem of a simpler, more rugged and absolute era.
Though reminiscent of classical design and complimentary to the conservative design of the home, the interior of the outdoor room was ultra-modern in its array of comfort and convenience. The Peseks felt this would be a great place to hold birthday parties for their child. With this new outdoor room, the Peseks could take the party outside at any time of day or night, and at any time of year. We also built the structure to be fully functional as an outdoor kitchen as well as an outdoor entertainment area. There was a smoker, a refrigerator, an ice maker, and a water heater—all intended to eliminate any need to return to the house once the party began. Seating and entertainment systems were also added to provide state of the art fun for adults and children alike. We installed a flat-screen plasma TV, and we wired it for cable.
The swimming pool was built between the outdoor room and the rear entrance to the house. We got rid of the old lagoon-pool design which geometrically clashed with the right angles of the house and outdoor room. We then had a completely new pool built, in the shape of a rectangle, with a rather innovative coping design.
We showcased the pool with a coping that rose perpendicular to the ground out of the stone patio surface. This reinforced our blend of contemporary look with classical right angles. We saved the client an enormous amount of money on travertine by setting the coping so that it does not overhang with the tile. Because the ground between the house and the outdoor room gradually dropped in grade, we used the natural slope of the ground to create another perpendicular right angle at the end of the pool. Here, we installed a waterfall which spilled over into a heated spa. Although the spa was fed from within itself, it was built to look as though water was coming from within the pool.
The ultimate result of all of this is a new sense of visual “ebb and flow,” so to speak. When Mr. Pesek sits in his couch facing his house, the earth appears to rise up first into an illuminated pool which leads the way up the steps to his home. When he sits in his spa facing the other direction, the earth rises up like a doorway to his outdoor room, where he can comfortably relax in the water while he watches TV. For more the 20 years Exterior Worlds has specialized in servicing many of Houston's fine neighborhoods.

Park Lane Residence is a single family house designed in a unique, northwest modern style. The goal of the project is to create a space that allows the family to entertain their guests in a welcoming one-of-a-kind environment. Uptic Studios took into consideration the relation between the exterior and interior spaces creating a smooth transition with an open concept design and celebrating the natural environment. The Clean geometry and contrast in materials creates an integrative design that is both artistic, functional and in harmony with its surroundings. Uptic Studios provided the privacy needed, while also opening the space to the surrounding environment with large floor to ceiling windows. The large overhangs and trellises reduce solar exposure in the summer, while provides protection from the elements and letting in daylight in the winter. The crisp hardwood, metal and stone blends the exterior with the beautiful surrounding nature.

Kirkland's East of Market neighborhood is more urban in character than the surrounding communities, encouraging a design that occupies the urban-suburban boundary. Living spaces are tightly organized and vertical, stacked over the garage, with a shifted geometry between floors creating a dynamic form.

The design works with the existing geometry to create “his” and “hers” vanities flanking the window, below which a stand alone tub sits. Opposite the tub is a shower tucked into a niche, with a glass enclosure pushed out past the side walls and lower ceiling to create a glass-box effect. The walls on each side of the shower are covered with milk glass tile that help to bounce light into the space. The vanities are designed to appear floating. Lighting is incorporated into their bases to give soft illumination at night, and enhance the floating effect. They are finished in a glossy laquer with a matte quartz stone countertop.

Pure, concentrated glamour by designer Scott Maddux. Sterlingham were delighted to provide this bespoke basin stand and pole mounted mirrors to an 1840's house in London. The designer from Maddux Creative explains ' pairing it with brass is more exotic. I had brass in mind because it is warm . I was thinking cool and clean but not cold'. All of the brass is unlacquered, Scott explained ' we decided not to keep polishing it because it looks more alive when you allow it to discolour'. Thank you Scott, for showing how brass is beautiful.
