The kitchen addition connects with the rear green space and floods the room with natural light through large horizontally banded, counter height windows. Formaldehyde-free painted cabinetry with countertops made of resin coated recycled paper are easily maintained and environmentally sound.

Four floors of living space in a 1927 brick Italian-style estate have been renovated and remade into a stunning showhouse with modern, high-end furniture, finishes and appliances. The kitchen and baths have been completely remodeled and modernized; a library features rich wood paneling; and many of the rooms offer sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay and Golden Gate Bridge. The upper two floors feature a penthouse bedroom, sitting room, master bedroom/bath and a rumpus room. The lower level features a champagne cellar, crafts room, nanny's suite and more.

This kitchen remodel involved the demolition of several intervening rooms to create a large kitchen/family room that now connects directly to the backyard and the pool area. The new raised roof and clerestory help to bring light into the heart of the house and provides views to the surrounding treetops. The kitchen cabinets are by Italian manufacturer Scavolini. The floor is slate, the countertops are granite, and the ceiling is bamboo.

This Wicker Park property consists of two buildings, an Italianate mansion (1879) and a Second Empire coach house (1893). Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the property has been carefully restored as a single family residence. Exterior work includes new roofs, windows, doors, and porches to complement the historic masonry walls and metal cornices. Inside, historic spaces such as the entry hall and living room were restored while back-of-the house spaces were treated in a more contemporary manner. A new white-painted steel stair connects all four levels of the building, while a new flight of stainless steel extends the historic front stair up to attic level, which now includes sky lit bedrooms and play spaces. The Coach House features parking for three cars on the ground level and a live-work space above, connected by a new spiral stair enclosed in a glass-and-brick addition. Sustainable design strategies include high R-value spray foam insulation, geothermal HVAC systems, and provisions for future solar panels.

The focal point of the whole kitchen is the beautiful, unique tiles on the sides of the kitchen island. They contrast with the rest of the kitchen by adding an individualized design.

Along one of the Mission District’s most cosmopolitan blocks, an Italianate home is expanded with two substantial yet stealthy additions. Peeking out above the restored front façade, a new third story bedroom level hints at the comprehensively transformed spaces within. The project integrates modern design, bountiful natural light sources, high efficiency systems, and repurposed building materials with new and original hand-crafted detailing.

This 6500 s.f. new home on one of the best blocks in San Francisco’s Pacific Heights, was designed for the needs of family with two work-from-home professionals. We focused on well-scaled rooms and excellent flow between spaces. We applied customized classical detailing and luxurious materials over a modern design approach of clean lines and state-of-the-art contemporary amenities. Materials include integral color stucco, custom mahogany windows, book-matched Calacatta marble, slate roofing and wrought-iron railings.

Black is used on the bed wall to create drama. Every room should have a "surprise" or a fabulous peice of furniture. In this case the drama icomes in the the Fernando & Humberto Campana "Vermelha" cotton cord chair.

This 7,000 square foot renovation and addition maintains the graciousness and carefully-proportioned spaces of the historic 1907 home. The new construction includes a kitchen and family living area, a master bedroom suite, and a fourth floor dormer expansion. The subtle palette of materials, extensive built-in cabinetry, and careful integration of modern detailing and design, together create a fresh interpretation of the original design.

My clients are parents of 4 children under the age of 5 - they requested that their living room be functional, practical and of course look good! They wanted to maximize seating in the room but also did not want the room to feel cluttered. The main seating area includes a matching sofa and love seat along with a large comfortable chair. Both sofas are upholstered in a faux leather, which has proven to be very durable and cleanable. We agreed that two small ottomans were a good alternative to a large coffee table, so that they too could be used for extra seating and/or moved out of the way so her children could play games on the carpet. The ottomans are also upholstered in the faux leather to protect them from staining. A small shelf below the upholstered ottoman top is great for displaying books or other small decorative items. The large rug is a shag! I had this made by Barry Carpet on Pico Blvd. It is both stain resistant and adds to this warm and inviting living room. I suggested a storage bench on the far wall with a cushion atop of it to create an additional seating area. She knew she wanted blues, browns and tans for the color palette so we first selected the sofa fabric and I found this fabulous Clark & Clarke floral fabric at Durelee for the large chair. I always love a wow factor in each room and this chair is definitely just that! We pulled the colors together with the blue upholstered ottomans, bench cushion and coordinating, colorful stripe and floral pillows. The Ghost chairs on the sides of the fire place not only fill in the space around the fire place but also serve as additional seating. I tried to create a focal point on the fireplace with the round silver mirror, white coral, pair of floral vases and the plant of course. Another interesting feature in the room are the custom made two tone angled book cases. Not only do they look great, but they are both unique and functional as well. We chose shutters for the window treatments because we wanted the room to feel light and airy. The walls were painted blue to match the furniture. Art work, the small accessories all over the room, along with fresh flowers were the final touches. My client was thrilled with the results - it met her expectations that the room be a warm, cheery, inviting space for both her family to play and entertain. She once told me that she smiles every time she walks downstairs and sees the bench with the beautiful blue floral bench cushion. An expectation of mine that I have fulfilled as a designer.

Practicality, programming flexibility, amenities, innovative design, and rpojection toward the site and landscaping are common goals. Sometimes the site's inherent contradictions establish the design and the final design pays homage to the site. Such is the case in this Classic home, built in Old Towne Clayton on a City lot.
The family had one basic requirement: they wanted a home to last their entire lives. The result of the design team is a stack of three floors, each with 2,200 s.f.. This is a basic design, termed a foursquare house, with four large rooms on each floor - a plan that has been used for centuries. The exterior is classic: the interior provides a twist. Interior architectural details call to mind details from the Arts and Crafts movement, such as archways throughout the house, simple millwork, and hardwre appropriate to the period.
