Heritage Home with a Tropical-type Oasis in the Upper Ottawa Valley
The initial mass planting (2021) of Hostas, Ferns, and Yews to provide all-season interest in the foundation planting. In addition to Ferns, the Victorians loved tropical plants (such as the tender Palms shown here), which they overwintered in their conservatories. Given the generous dimensions of this century house, with its 12-foot bay window, and large front porch, cultivars of plants which would eventually grow to a large size were selected.
