View of the wine wall which was designed to hold and display 128 bottles of wine! The glazed doors on either side of the wine wall were crafted from Accoya wood and finished in house with Farrow & Ball Railings, while the cabinets were made from walnut. Once crafted, the central carcasses were fitted with a series of solid brass bars—slotted in by hand. This complemented the brass inlay which was inserted throughout the panels. To finish off this centrepiece, an antique mirror effect wallpaper was fitted on the back wall to create a sense of opulence and to reflect light around the room. Unassuming Storage building? Guess again. This gorgeous custom wine cellar, designed and built by wine cellar design experts, Vintage Cellars, shows that you can outfit virtually any space to be a one of a kind, perfect place for wine storage. Here in Laguna Beach, Orange County California, the temperatures stay pretty nice year round. Through the magic of wine cellar vapor barrier and insulation, the design build team at Vintage Cellars was able to properly prepare this outbuilding to store over 1700 collectible wines. Working closely with the client, we were able to understand that although display is nice - uncompromising long term storage was the overarching goal. Sweeping throughout the room above, individual bottle storage reigns to maximize bottle count. At about chest height, you can see two rows of angled high reveal display. Here, the homeowner placed his prized bottles - just a glimpse of what this incredible collection holds. Directly in the center of this medium sized wine room lies a small peninsula - a small section jetting out where larger format bottles are kept atop, as well as more space below in individual bottle storage. A small tabletop can be utilized to open wines or to let your favorites decant while you peruse the gems throughout. Below again is more individual bottle storage, sitting atop gorgeous Mediterranean style tile. Another unique feature of this wine cellar / wine room / wine storage space / wine closet / wine shed / wine vault / custom wine cellar / custom wine room / custom wood wine cellar / redwood wine cellar is the bridge across the top of the door. Often, this space can be overlooked, but the experts at Vintage Cellars are seasoned in delivering a desired end result. We were able to squeeze in another 100 bottles above the doorframe - and it looks fantastic. This Raw Redwood wooden wine cellar has a recessed cooling unit in the ceiling, with wood paneling behind the racking to add to the pleasing golden hue of the wine racks themselves. Rustic elegance describes this wine room which is located in Burr Ridge, Illinois. Starting with the ledge stone entrance, two sconces, two arched knotty elder windows and door. The wine room was designed for an owner with an incredible wine collection of over 2500+ bottles and it is fully equipped with a climate control system that provides consistent storing conditions and allows wine to age at an elegant pace. The wine racks, walls, and ceiling were made of Redwood, a type of wood that is highly durable and perfect for long-term wine storage. Ciò che non manca mai nella casa di un vero amante del vino è una cantina personale, magari allestita in taverna o nel seminterrato. Nelle serate primaverili ed estive, quando il clima si fa più mite, rilassarsi in veranda con un buon bicchiere di vino della propria riserva è un ottimo modo per concludere la giornata. Una cantina deve essere allestita in un modo ben preciso per poter conservare al meglio le bottiglie di vino: non essendo un semplice sgabuzzino o deposito, questa particolare stanza deve essere strutturata in modo da favorire temperatura costante e giusta dose di umidità. Un ambiente troppo umido potrebbe favorire la formazione di muffe sui tappi di sughero; al contrario un ambiente troppo asciutto potrebbe farli seccare e comprometterne la tenuta. Le cantine possono essere inoltre utilizzate per conservare altri tipi di alcolici nonché alimenti come salumi, insaccati e conserve.

Come allestisco e arredo la cantina di casa?

Se deciderai di sfruttare una parte del tuo seminterrato adibendola a cantina, dovrai prima di tutto assicurarti che non ci siano finestre o infiltrazioni di luce. La luce solare è infatti deleteria per il vino in quanto ne altera il sapore ed è altrettanto dannosa per liquori, birre, salumi e insaccati. La luce solare inoltre rischierebbe di compromettere la quantità necessaria di umidità che deve essere assolutamente presente: le pareti devono mantenere il luogo a temperatura costante tra i 12°C e i 18°C, elemento fondamentale per la perfetta maturazione ed affinamento del vino. Le cantine non sono però da intendere come un luogo a sé stante della casa. Sono stanze come le altre e in quanto tali possono essere arredate in modo da renderle un ambiente accogliente e ospitale, dove invitare i propri amici e mostrare loro la cura con cui conservi le tue scorte di vino.

Come scelgo gli scaffali per la mia cantina e quali cantinette frigo acquistare?

Elemento indispensabile per una cantina di un grande appassionato di vini è la scaffalatura, in legno o in metallo, nella quale riporre le bottiglie e le riserve di cibo. Potresti dedicare una parete intera agli scaffali per il vino, oppure, se la stanza che avrai deciso di trasformare in cantina non presenta le condizioni adatte, potresti utilizzare una delle numerose cantinette per vino disponibili sul mercato, piccole dispense climatizzate che ricreano al proprio interno la temperatura adatta alla conservazione delle tue preziose bottiglie. Posiziona le bottiglie su mensole che dovranno essere delle dimensioni adatte a contenere le bottiglie inclinate tendenti ad una posizione orizzontale, in modo che il tappo, a contatto diretto con il vino, rimanga morbido e non si crepi, evitando pericolose infiltrazioni di ossigeno. È importante anche conoscere l’ordine in cui andrai a collocare sugli scaffali i tipi di vino: i vini bianchi andranno nei ripiani inferiori, leggermente più freschi, mentre i vini rossi in quelli superiori a contatto con l’aria più calda. Ricorda inoltre che il vino traspira l’ambiente che lo circonda, non vorrai mai che venisse contaminato da sostante chimiche ed odori troppo forti: evita di sistemarlo accanto a cibi stagionati o su mensole in legno trattate chimicamente.

Come decorare la cantina

Idealmente la cantina che tutti abbiamo in mente ha i mattoni a vista e il soffitto a botte. Non dimenticare però che puoi integrarne lo stile con quello della tua casa. Se vuoi ovviare ai tradizionali pietra e legno, puoi progettarla con vetro e metallo per una soluzione più moderna. Al centro della stanza potrai collocare un vecchio tavolo in legno restaurato e riverniciato, corredato di sgabelli e panche o un paio di botti in legno da utilizzare come piano d’appoggio. Per concludere l’arredo, consigliamo di dotare la tua enoteca privata di una credenza con i bicchieri: calici, flûte e coppe. Non dimenticare di dotare l’angolo degustazione di apribottiglie e decanter: in questo modo avrai tutto l’occorrente per organizzare una piacevole serata con i tuoi ospiti.
