When we first saw the home, we noticed that it had a bit of an architectural ‘mullet’ going on. The front of the house was a beautiful character home built in 1912, lovingly cared for and restored, inside and out. The back of the house suffered from a 1988 addition built by a previous owner with a shed roof and poorly integrated with the rest of the home. The owners described a time-warp that occurred whenever you crossed that old-to-new threshold within the home.
We designed a renovation that would tie the exterior of the addition in with the rest of the character home, and provide more beautiful and functional spaces on the interior. The 680 SF interior renovation includes a new family lounge area, kitchen, powder room, work space, entry closets, laundry room, office, and a new feature stair to connect the main floor of the home with the previously separated basement level.
The interior aesthetic is modern, yet timeless. All design elements serve double duty by contributing to the pragmatic function of the space, while providing a playful and dramatic design, which brings the family together.

Charlotte Comer Interiors, Inc.Soaring ceiling with massive structural beams and a wall of light make this kitchen stunning to view and a delightful place to entertain. Walls appear like a Tuscany cucina tiled up to the ceiling in a variegated pattern of tumbled travertine. Custom cabinets with a raised panel are painted white while the island cabinets have a distressed pale blue finish. Standing at the farm house sink, there is an expansive view from the wall Palladian windows which provide abundant light for the granite counter work surfaces. Wrought iron chandelier, wide plank wood floors and earthen ware vessels displayed above the cabinets are reminiscent of an ancient villa.

DANIELLE Interior Design & DecorAccenting the teal glass backsplash tile is the cozy window seat with a colorful vibrant diamond pattern. In Small spaces you need to maximize every inch. In this space a custom bench seat was made to not only cozy up and read a book but also to use as storage for bigger beach items like umbrellas and an additional air mattress! A reading light and plug were added to the wall for additional light while reading and a place to change your phone while in use. The layered patterned pillows add fun and excitement to the small corner space. With a touch of beach decor the small studio apartment does not become overwhelmed with clique items.

Cape Associates, Inc.As innkeepers, Lois and Evan Evans know all about hospitality. So after buying a 1955 Cape Cod cottage whose interiors hadn’t been updated since the 1970s, they set out on a whole-house renovation, a major focus of which was the kitchen.
The goal of this renovation was to create a space that would be efficient and inviting for entertaining, as well as compatible with the home’s beach-cottage style.
Cape Associates removed the wall separating the kitchen from the dining room to create an open, airy layout. The ceilings were raised and clad in shiplap siding and highlighted with new pine beams, reflective of the cottage style of the home. New windows add a vintage look.
The designer used a whitewashed palette and traditional cabinetry to push a casual and beachy vibe, while granite countertops add a touch of elegance.
The layout was rearranged to include an island that’s roomy enough for casual meals and for guests to hang around when the owners are prepping party meals.
Placing the main sink and dishwasher in the island instead of the usual under-the-window spot was a decision made by Lois early in the planning stages. “If we have guests over, I can face everyone when I’m rinsing vegetables or washing dishes,” she says. “Otherwise, my back would be turned.”
The old avocado-hued linoleum flooring had an unexpected bonus: preserving the original oak floors, which were refinished.
The new layout includes room for the homeowners’ hutch from their previous residence, as well as an old pot-bellied stove, a family heirloom. A glass-front cabinet allows the homeowners to show off colorful dishes. Bringing the cabinet down to counter level adds more storage. Stacking the microwave, oven and warming drawer adds efficiency.
