CONVERTED HISTORICAL CASTLE

Originally built in the 13th Century, this charming castle has gone through many periods of dilapidation and restoration, ultimately creating the character of the property which exists today. After the structure was put on the English Heritage Buildings at Risk Register, extensive and sensitive restoration and development was carried out to turn it into a comfortable family home. A new wing was added to the main inhabited Grade 1 listed building, a three storey spiral stone staircase was reinstated, a new cloister installed, and barns and outbuildings were converted. Architectural Bronze Casements were commissioned to provide over 160 windows throughout the building, from the ancient tower with arched gothic leaded lights to the modern wing with sleek understated two-pane windows. Inward opening windows were critical to this project as windows had to be installed, maintained and cleaned from the inside. The windows were fitted with traditional leaded lights and secured with saddle bars. The irregularity of openings and nature of the building made this a particularly interesting project to be involved with.
