Contemporary Dining Room Interior Design
Designers Stan and Andrea Mussman with Mussman Design Associates were asked by a successful single young athlete to do a "gangsta" style dining room which could also be used for board meetings-thus this Chicago mens club theme. The elegant side of a gangsta life would have to show through. The client wanted to change the traditional crown, base and trim throughout the house, and opted for contemporary base and trim, with no crown in any of the rooms except the dining room. The client wanted dark walls, and since the house was filled with light we were able to get away with Benjamin Moore Aura paint in flat darker hues. Our second thought was to add an architectural element with the imported wallpaper on the ceiling. We decided on the paper first, and it set the tone for the whole design. We had been eying the chandelier for months-just waiting to use it in the proper setting. The same can be said with the table base. We used two resin sequoia tree root bases in silver and then custom made a bronze glass table top. The large mirror was a perfect fit for the narrow metal console. There are 2 custom host/hostess chairs in a bomber jacket kind of leather and 6 side chairs in reptilian leather. Soft, nondescript open weave center drapes flanked by velvet side panels finish off the french doors. Many people think having drapery in a room means heavy over kill. But, it doesn't have to be. Now the client can dine in style and have meetings in a place well worth his guests nods of approval.
