Window grids or no grids?

We are replacing the windows on our home and I'm debating on not having any grids at all or just on the top small window and on top of the big window. Also with how windows open is it better to have the windows open from top to bottom, bottom to top or side to side?

We personally have moved away from windows with grids in San Antonio, TX. It is not that they look bad, in any way, but we prefer to leave those in the past.

I have no grids now and we are getting ready to install new windows and we are just doing grids on top I think its too busy to do them on top and bottom. I have been driving around and looking at homes and without grids it looks to plain to me. All the high end homes always have grids. I live in Florida and all the beautiful homes on the water have the grids and it looks beautiful. I say do grids but only on top.

Intanto ringrazio tutti per gli utilissimi consigli. Sono un'amante degli ambienti luminosi e la stanza ha un affaccio interno di un primo piano quindi non credo che sarà particolarmente luminosa per cui vorrei utilizzare tutti i punti luce. Ho raccolto il suggerimento di ridimensionare la lampada sul tavolo optando per la Pangen di Fontana Arte. I pensili sviluppano solo per 2 mt di lunghezza del piano che è di 4,60 mt quindi comunque vorrei mantenere il punto luce a soffitto sviluppando nella lunghezza e optando per qualcosa di molto semplice che non vada in contrasto con l'altro punto luce (microfile di Lucifero's). Non conosco il prodotto quindi vi chiedo se avete qualche info da darmi. Grazie mille Francesca

Con il legno preferisco l'ottone. Quelli del link sono curvabili a piacimento e sagomabili, ma non so fino a che punto di curvatura possono arrivare. Prova a leggere la scheda tecnica, io purtroppo ora devo staccare, domattina devo alzarmi presto, sono ospite a casa di parenti. Buona notte. PS Io, per tagliare la testa al toro (e scusate il gioco di parole :D ) farei fare una soglia su misura in ardesia, staccherà dai pavimenti, vero, ma è un bel contrasto. Io la feci fare in granito, situazione simile, piccolo dislivello tra due pavimenti, cucina (in gres grigio blu) e soggiorno (parquet rovere naturale), che comunicavano tramite un arco a giorno, ma era comunque un dislivello troppo alto per un profilo normale. Così ho fatto fare una soglia a filo pavimento della cucina che sbordava, curva, sul parquet in rovere naturale, in granito grigio bluastro, che aveva la stessa tonalità delle piastrelle della cucina. Stava benissimo.

Most homeowners in our area are still choosing grids. Some HOA's have requirements on this issue, so please check with your HOA if you live in one. You'll probably like doublehung windows - windows that both the top and bottom can slide, so you can choose your air flow across the house. Some windows look better with windows that slide side to side. A good window contractor will go through your house with you, inside and out, and show you what each style will look like in your space, with and without grids. Good luck!

Have you considered grids like these below? There are less dividers so the windows are a little less busy. My neighbor has something similar and they look really nice. I think no grids would have an odd look on your beautiful home.

I have seen this it does look nice especially for those windows because they are small. We have really big windows so our windows wont be busy.

I agree with greenliving -- I feel like a gridless window on the front looks plain, like something is missing. Grids add character and value IMO, even if they are a "simple" grid on top. I do agree that small squares on top and bottom can look too busy.

My friend has grids on the outside and she hates that she can see the back of them from the inside. I told her they no longer make them like that. they make the ones for the outside and they also make it for the inside so you dont see the back of them from the inside anymore. She said she would have loved that and that is why she never recommends them to anyone. So anyone that doesn't know that is probably against the grids like she was. Just an fyi.
