They are fine craftsmen with a keen sense of design and an amazing volume of knowledge of materials, process and building codes and go to great lengths to ensure your project stays on the time line and within the budget. The work they performed for us was not only an engineering marvel, but also beautifully designed and built - down to the smallest of details. Everyone we worked with listened to what we wanted, our ideas and our budget and within a very short period of time came back with a design, suggested materials, a time line and options for our consideration. There was never any pressure and always a positive attitude about how to make our dream happen for us. Their expertise was evident at every stage of the project. Even the subcontractors they work with exhibited the same level of professionalism. I would absolutely hire Vernon Sons Construction for any home remodeling or new building construction; their absolute laser-focused attention to detail is immediately evident in the quality and craftsmanship of their work. We lost our Santa Barbara house in the Tea Fire - Nov. 2008. Our rebuild design was unusual and required construction techniques that were non-standard. Framing in particular was complicated by non-square walls and unequal stud lengths - everywhere. We were also on a tight budget. The Vernon Sons team tackled this and many other design complexities with ease. They have decades of experience in the construction trades and work with sub contractors that are both equally experienced and reasonably priced - a rare combination in Santa Barbara. Subs were also very responsive to our input and requests. Because of our somewhat unusual design, there were inevitable "problem solving" moments during the project. This is where the long experience of the Vernon Sons team paid dividends. In all cases, they were able to come up with creative solutions that were cost effective and based on sound construction practice. There were also minor design adjustments along the way. Vernon and Sons team absorbed these changes quickly and at reasonable cost. Our project was completed on time and on budget. We remain good friends (a worthy testament) and would recommend Vernon Sons Construction highly to anyone.
