How to Add a Cute Vanity Table in a Small Apartment
Create a cute spot for all your potions and lotions, your makeup and jewellery even in a small apartment space
I’m one of those people who likes a well-organised vanity table rather than have bits and bobs of skincare, makeup and jewellery scattered all around my apartment.
Vanity tables – something of a throwback – have come back into vogue thanks to beauty YouTubers. There are currently hundreds of videos showing you how to organise your skincare and makeup, what sort of lights and mirrors to set up, and wonderful ‘flatlay’ pictures on Instagram.
If you live in a small apartment or flat, finding a spot for a vanity table can be a little tricky. One great idea is to create a dual purpose space, like a home office-cum-vanity-table. Read on for ideas on how to have the beauty station you deserve.

Build it: If you are getting a built-in, walk-in wardrobe done, remember to include a space for your vanity table.
Build it: If you have a regular wardrobe, remember you can slot a vanity table between built-ins.
Taylor Dressing Table -
Buy it: This pre-fabricated vanity unit is a fabulous option if you’re not installing built-in storage in your bedroom or bathroom, or if you’re renting. It comes with a huge mirror which slides to reveal more storage.
Build it: You can also place a glamorous vanity table and gorgeous chair in the living room or hallway. Keep beauty products in drawers or in good-looking storage boxes to maintain tidiness.
Miller 5-Drawer Dressing Table
Buy it: I love the elegant lines of this Miller dressing table. Yes, it’s expensive, but think of it as two pieces of furniture in one. This table can also be used as a console table in your living room. Just pop some nice flowers and ceramics in front of the mirror.
Groom while you work
I love the idea of using one space for two functions. A neat home office space can be turned into a vanity by adding a mirror and having storage for makeup, skincare and jewellery.

Table Lamps
See the light
When it comes to doing your makeup – or working on a computer – having quality directional lighting is really important. Pretty lamps may look good on the vanity top but these don’t usually provide the even lighting needed for makeup application. You’re better off looking at proper directional lighting, and only using the lamps to set the mood.

Reflect on this
You can either get your contractor to install a wall-to-wall mirror or hang a store-bought one yourself. Or do both like in this home where an antique mirror was hung on top of a mirrored wall. Doubly beautiful!

Get a great chair
You’re obviously going to need a comfortable chair or stool. Whichever one you choose, it should suit your decor scheme.

Anabelle Chair, Dark Grey
Buy it: This Anabelle chair is elegant enough for your vanity table, but also very comfortable.
If you’re not someone who spends a long time putting on makeup, then you may want to use a stool rather than a chair. An additional benefit of using a stool is that you can tuck it under the table, saving you much needed space.
Laura Storage Stool
Buy it: The Laura stool comes as part of a vanity table set and has additional storage in the seat!
Square Stool - Denim
Buy it: This cute Denim stool is a fun option if it’s placed in a more public area like the living room where it can double up as extra seating for guests.

There are the obvious places to put a vanity table, like in your bedroom, in the bathroom or in the walk-in wardrobe if you’re lucky enough to have one of those. However, look beyond for under-utilised spaces. In this home, the vanity table has been tucked under the stairs. You could also create a dressing space in what would have been a domestic helper’s room if you don’t have live-in help.
