Jeremy Butler-Pinkham of JBP Architects chose a blue island and lower cabinets to pull in some of the other materials in this Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, kitchen. “We selected this particular color to complement the natural red tones of the brick backsplash,” he says. “The blue also picks up on the blue-gray tones of the integrally colored concrete floors and blackened-steel range hood.”
