This is kind of what I'm thinking. When doors are closed you only see the art work and shelves on either side.
Don't like doors just being open in the room where someone could run into them.

Look at 12" uppers on back wall. Do you like?
What if we did something like this and stain matched it to the color of the floor i.e. a dark wood? I think it would provide the tie-in/balance we need in the range area.
