Placement of fire element, stairs and lower patio I really like how the fire-pit is dual-sided allowing multiple spaces to enjoy it.-MT
plants in planters. possibly a few with herbs too? I love raised steel planters. It would be very easy to incorporate some to help define edges of the terraced patio.-MT Sold!! :) - KB
Above-ground pool with contemporary stainless steel water scuppers.-MT I like this above-ground pool option with the distressed metal. Mike worries that the smooth concrete surface will settle and crack. (Although I prefer the smooth concrete to the stones.) Also, the house isn't contemporary, so we need to balance how contemporary we go with the outdoors. - KB
Love the color palette in this space.-MT I'd rather stick with blues & greens than oranges & reds.
Scupper water features.-MT We really like this. We like the living space by the pool-MB
Deck jet water features.-MT Not a fan of water jets-MB Noted, I will be sure not to include deck jets in the pool decking layout.-MT Thanks! - KB
All masonry work performed by Southern Landscape.-MT
All masonry work performed by Southern Landscape.-MT
Travertine pool decking. Raised spa with freestanding wall.-MT We like the idea of the spa... but can we have it incorporated more into the pool? I also like the lights on the stairs.-MB Noted in regards to the travertine. I'll be sure to design the spa to be situated in the pool.-MT
Travertine pool decking. Note the freestanding wall scupper water feature.-MT Not a fan of travertine, but we like the scupper feature-MB We recently saw a pool/spa combo that used a scupper feature to connect the two. -KB
Love the plant palette in this design.-MT We agree... like the plant palette as well.-MB
Nice color/texture combination between the crushed limestone, weathered steel, and trailing silver ponyfoot.-MT I liked the color combination - KB
Large pavers installed in an offset pattern.-MT
Irregular shaped concrete pavers set in Tejas black gravel.-MT
Mass planted natives and adaptives.-MT
Deconstructed limestone lueder path/seating and fire-pit. -MT
Fire-pit seating area I designed with custom concrete pavers set in crushed limestone. Raised steel planters help add height variation to the space.-MT I do love the steel planters, but would prefer to have the fire element a little more incorporated into the over all design, rather than feeling like a lonely island. - KB
Love the combination of steel and concrete.-MT Not a fan of pavers, don't like the idea of dirt, bugs weeds.-MB We like the long fire feature.-MB In terms of paving, would we rather see something that interlocks and/or minimizes spacing between the pavers?-MT Yes, we would prefer to minimize/eliminate the space between the pavers. - KB
Cored rock bubbler water feature with pondless catch basin. Subtle and understated, but still aesthetically pleasing.-MT Rock basin is too much, too rustic.-MB I will search for other feature ideas.-MT We are ok without the water feature if the pool has scuppers, as it's just the moving water noise we wanted to include. - KB
Limestone lueder pavers set in crushed limestone and raised steel planters. Love the material combinations in this design.-MT I agree. - KB
Limestone pavers set in river rock. A similar application would look great connecting the backyard destination areas.-MT Like this spa better... looks like its pouring into pool.-MB You are correct, the spa wall feature a strip of infinity edge that allows the water to circulate into the pool.-MT That would be a great connection between the spa and the pool. - KB
Riased fire-pit seating area.-MT WE don't like this one... to disconnected.-MB -Noted on the disconnection, but how do we feel about the materials? Are we looking for something more modern, ie steel, concrete, etc? Yes, more modern. I don't like the rustic mismatched stone look. It needs to make sense with the house, but not feel too rustic-hill country-ish. - KB
Love the reclaimed wood This is a really fun space. Great use of texture. It can be difficult to pull off using so many different textures, but this designed did an excellent job!-MT Mostly, I wanted to highlight the kitchen feature with the reclaimed wood. I'd like to include a kitchen but not have it made out of stone. - KB
Like these materials. Agreed, I love using the combination of steel, wood, and concrete. Industrial, but warm.-MT Yes, that's a very appealing look and the native succulents work well with it too. It's also clean feeling without being too contemporary. - KB
Like the covering over the fire
