Fixed painted wood shelving looks high end. But often the paint doesn't hold up to this application. Adjustable shelves for shoes makes better use of the space and allows for twice as many shoes. Shoes need anywhere from 4.5" of space to 8". The big openings are great for purses, but not for sweaters and jeans because they have to be stacked too high.
