Comfy Cozy
This client and I designed this kitchen wanting it to be a space you enter and never want to leave. We used a warm inviting cherry as the main cabinetry, and added a furniture style piece that was painted black on cherry, and sanded thru so that it looked like it was an antique instead of 2 cabinets and some parts and pieces. (Unfortunately the furniture piece wasn't quite finished in this shot.) Cherry can sometimes feel very formal, but pairing it with soapstone countertops we were able to create a space that wasn't intimidating. The soapstone will change over time, becoming darker in spots that are touched more, and marked by the occasional scratch. We loved this since we wanted it to look lived in. However, a 3M pad will easily take out any offensive scratches, and if desired the top can be oiled/waxed for a more even darker finish. We opted to keep the original door bell and laundry chute, as we felt it was part of the charm of an older home.
