A Cozy Place for Family Entertainment on Cold Minnesota Nights
This family/entertainment room project began with cold floors. An uninsulated crawl space below created a cold floor regardless of floor covering. The original addition’s color scheme was dark and uninviting. Something had to be done.
To fix the cold floor problem first the crawl space was excavated and a cement floor poured, creating a full five feet of usable storage space below. The foundation walls were insulated, and HVAC runs created for the family room. Additional heat vents were placed in the crawl space as well, providing a very warm oak floor for the room above – like in-floor heating, but with significant storage.
The remodeling design called for the addition and relocation of new large energy-efficient windows and doors to let sunlight in. The before and after photos of this project clearly show the remarkable difference the right colors can make.
The HDTV’s wall placement along with a real-wood fireplace became the focus of the room, while traffic flows freely behind the couch from entry to kitchen.
The result: Great warm space for entertaining family and friends. This project is also featured on YouTube.
