Nobody can inform more - you haven't enough info.
Length, width of island, ceiling height, style or anything else.
Under cabinet lighting would be good as well, as would simple recessed over the sink.
Clutter and magnet free is helpful in a small kitchen: )

2 mesi fa- IMO before getting pendants maybe get better storage . I also do not think it is worth the money to paint those cabinets . A good clean out of the existing canets and rearranging , taking all the stuff off the fridge and the counters will do 10x the good that painting the cabinets will do. Then change all the light bulbs to LED 4000K and IMO a few more potlights would be better than pendants .

2 mesi faIt looks like you have 2 lights over the island now?
What else are you doing to the kitchen @bridgetmarie21?

2 mesi fanew island top would be more worthwhile. All white cabinets??? you want something happening at the counter/backsplash level then. Dont see much currently. How much are you spending to paint those? Not to be Debbie Downer but ...older fridge...boring counters...no backsplash...those are the things if you have some money. Lighting can always be improved but yours isnt that bad.

2 mesi faThe Commentors here are trying to give you a punch list of freebie upgrades to tackle before you take on the pendants. That may seem off topic since you only asked about lighting. When you come on a Houzz Design Dilemma, you're giving a first impression view of the entire space. So it's challenging for Commentors to recommend one small fix without taking the whole space into account. In good design, there's an order to doing things. You have light, bright countertops that could be bouncing light upwards, but you have too much stuff on them. Ditto the fridge door., So it's hard to recommend lighting all by itself.
