Let more light in?

We are planning to embark on a kitchen remodel and want to move the kitchen and possibly dining area to the back of our house so that we can see the garden and let more light in.

Currently a toilet/shower and utility room block this off from the kitchen.

We do still need a downstairs toilet and utility room and an area to store coats and shoes as our front entrance does not have space for this.

What would you do? The garden is North?North West facing and gets afternoon and evening sun.

I think we would need skylights to achieve more light.

Can you afford a small extension too ? If so:

You could play around with the sizes depending on what you want in your WC/utility. Is the cupboard under the stairs big enough for your coats etc. ?

@annabellaamy Thanks for your comments and ideas. I should give you more information. The house is semidetached so the only light would come from the side where you have added the utility and WC so ideally I don't want to completely shut this off.

I agree we would need some kind of extension and I have drawn up this plan (which is a side return extension I think) but I am not sure it gives us enough space in the utility (we just want to fit a toilet and washing machine in there)

Dilemma arredamento cucina: lineare o ad angolo?

Io invece oltre alla doppia fila di pensili ho messo due mobili alti 270 per piatti, pentole e cibarie. Non avendo 60 cm di profondità nella parte finale della cucina a causa della portafinestra non ho potuto fare 2 colonne affiancate e quindi ho messo un frigo libero entrando a destra, una colonna profonda come i pensili e larga 60 cm in fondo e un'altra analoga di fronte, lavello singolo, lavastoviglie, forno con cassetto alto per altre pentole, cassettiera da 40 con un cassetto alto per padelle e bricchi, un cassetto per tovaglie ecc e uno per le posate con all'interno un secondo cassetto sempre per le posate.

ok great....if you can extend that would make all the difference. I would keep away from a WC directly off living/kitchen areas. Another idea below....again, you can play around with the sizes depending on what you need to fit in.

I'd put the porch + toilet + utility next to the stairs, up to the left side window as they don't need much daylight. The rest can then be a single open plan kitchen / dining / social space. This should give you lots of wall space for windows + kitchen cupboards + opportunity for roof windows and large sliding doors leading to a patio area.
