A better way to box in pipes

We are redesigning our cloakroom and have a pipes problem. There are several pipes running most of the length of the room, including the basin water supply but also boiler pipes and the stop cock. They are currently boxed in poorly but even when this is done well we are worried it will look terrible. The other option would be to tile the boxing in and wall behind but we don't want to overdo wall tiles! anyone any suggestions?

I think the problem at the moment is that it looks like it is doing exactly what it is meant to, if that makes sense - purely boxing in the pipes. Perhaps consider extending the boxing, but incorporating storage within the boxing, for perhaps toilet rolls, cleaning products, bathroom reading material etc. That was it looks to serve a purpose and distinguishes itself from just boxing in ugly pipework.

Hi Matt. If you have enough width in the room you could extend the boxing floor to ceiling, basically creating a false wall using timber studwork finished with a layer of plasterboard. A small cavity between the existing wall and the new studwork would conceal any low level pipework. You could include a low level access hatch/door for maintenance access.

    Hi Matt,

It looks like you're going to have to keep them boxed in. However you could make the most of this by extending the boxing, this would add new storage space by creating a shelf behind the sink. You could tile around it and use a nice trim on the edges to make it look neater and more professional. It could either be tiled in matching tiles to help it blend in, or you could use a different tile to make it look like a shelf.
