Which area rug size?

There seems to be 2 standard size options for an area rug for our front room. The room is rectangular with a chimney breast and I'm not sure whether to go with an XL rug or not.

I've drawn up scale plans & attached. Do people think a smaller rug that "leaves out" the shelving units in the alcoves around the chimney breast would look better than a larger rug that reaches them but leaves very little wood floor visible?

I'm tending towards the smaller one, but would appreciate your opinions!

    Hello,

    We are in agreement with yourself in choosing the 3x2m rug. Leaving some space around the rug to show off the wooden floor and keeping some distance away from the fireplace would work best.
