    Almost without exception, grey floors need a contrast of colour to keep the room from looking lifeless and sad. Darker or lighter, most other woods will have a warmer tone which will make the room more inviting. The higher the contrast, the more dynamic the room will be. The lower the contrast, the more restful. You might also consider the grain patterning of your woods. Mix tight straight grains with loose flat cut grains or other grains with more movement. If the materials cannot match exactly, make sure that they are different enough to not appear as though you failed to get them to be the same. I hope that this helps a little!
