What light pendant/s do you think will suit the kitchen island at the rear of the image?

    Anything Tom Dixon in black

Definitely black but not something that will throw weird patterns all over the ceiling and walls as that amazing ceiling is busy enough. Should be quite large to keep the scale right.

    Wow, what a stunning space!

The kitchen bench would benefit from 3 pendants that are both simple yet powerful. As has been mentioned, any Tom Dixon pendants would look sensational! However, you could always keep it interesting with something simpler.

I will link you to some of our products, that will hopefully give you some more ideas :)

    Hi kellybarnesy,

Looks like a great space you've got there! The Tom Dixon lights are a great option.

If you want something a little different and unique, below is a project that I completed not too long ago with a similar open plan layout. We used this feature pendant from an Argentinian lighting design company. It's modern but classic as well as a statement piece. It's made out of fine timber veneer and comes in different colours.

This single light piece was chosen as the focal point of this area. We used greys and blues colours, and contrasting pops of yellow. We wanted to bring the outside which has pool into the indoors by using the different shades of blues. May be worth while considering your existing colour palette to incorporate into your project.

The clients love this feature light and I'm told friends who visit love it too! Hope you find this useful! Best wishes for you project :)

    Amazing space. Classic style.

We think our V Demi Conus pendants would work well in your kitchen, as you can see they look great against a raked ceiling. All our lights are designed and made in Australia and can be customised to your needs (the timber is available in a range of finishes - including black). geoffreycameronmarshall.com.au

What ever you decide be sure and post pics we'd love to see photos of the finished space...

I can see why the first person was suggesting black and that would look lovely for you because you have the contrast of black in the chairs.... however would it be the best choice if you change your furnishings. I would go for hanging pendants. Colours are dependant on whether you wish them to be a statement piece or not. It is quite trendy at the moment to hang bare bulbs but I do not think that is safe but you could have a clear glass pendant. With your lovely / amazing high ceilings you need something that is going to spread the light or pin point the light to that one location and that is only a decision that you can make.

Yes, you do have a lovely large space. As the kitchen island is offset to the thru beam in the roof line, I suggest that a hanging bar with directed led lights, or three white pendants. Why i suggest white is that whatever style you choose, they will blend in with the surrounds of the kitchen and not be so noticeable in their hanging positions from the ceiling. Also a change in decor would not be compromised if white is chosen. Hope that helps

Keep in mind that the central beam is off centre to the island. Thus I think that cluster of luminaires, perhaps all hung at varying heights would be ideal, so as to take the eye away from what is going on with the beams.
Where do you want to mount it from? Is it to light the entire kitchen space or just the island?

Thanks everyone! The chairs will most likely be white (this is a 3d image) and the dining table will run in the other direction. Im thinking i will also put a carpet under the dining table to break up the wood

Im thinking of using one of these pendants. Do you think they will suit or be too busy? Im they will hopefully blend in. The other option that i was thinking was three heavy glass pendanst but not see through (as I'm worried about it looking dirty over time),. however I've been unable to find one!

In a kitchen area it would not be preferable to use a lampshade like the ones you have illustrated due their ability to collect dust, kitchen grime that is in the air from cooking, unless they are washable. Lighting over the kitchen island should be good, direct and bright. A dimmer could be added to the switching method if you need diffused lighting. If you went back to glass, it would be more versatile and yes, one does have to clean the lights at some stage, no matter what they are.

Not to be rude, but this applies to everyone asking for help. Don't post one photo and ask for opinions without telling us what your plan is in the near future .

Yes this applies to this particular problem, we are all looking at the black chairs just to be told they are going to be white and probably different style as well. I am not taking this to seriously but I am sure we are all genuinely trying to help .

I would definitely go with black (metal and glass, differing shapes and sizes but all in a row across the bench) above the kitchen island...this will create a visual link to your dining chairs (assuming that you will be keeping those) and help to bring the two spaces together in such a massive room.
When it comes to above the table I would like to see another grouping of glass pendants..... More closely together, in a bunch of differing heights and shapes to create interest without popping so to speak.
I am an interior designer, just qualified....I would love to hear any feedback...good/bad on my opinions above.
    Thank you

tthbendigo, she has already indicated above that the chairs will probably be white and different from the pic.

Go to some salvage yards and try and find some old tennis court or street lights, they will pick up the age of the table. Who cares what colour the chairs are, who matches their light fittings to a chair.

    Hello Kelly!
The drawing of your soon to be kitchen is amazing, the exposed beams add a raw element and texture to the room whilst keeping the space feel open and inviting. You mentioned you wanted to place your dining table in the opposite direction with white chairs. I get the feeling that you might like a more eclectic or scandi look, timbers and whites! The above pendants you mentioned you loved are beautiful woven baskets, however as someone else mentioned these styles will cast shadows due to their cut outs. To counteract this try using some low wattage globes (if these pendants are only decorative) - look at using downlights for task lighting.

    Here's some inspiration:

You could try these pendants if you are fond of the timber/woven style:

Make sure that whatever lights you buy have a long enough flex. My friend has a ceiling like yours and found that they were restricted by this.
