Looking for inspiration.....

I have these two large recessed "shelves" in my home that I don't know what to do with. I am not a huge "vase" person, which seems to be the general consensus for decorating these things. I have been looking at wallpaper to at least use them as visual interest, but I am having a hard time finding something that is both interesting but will not compete with my other décor. My décor is relatively modern but has some rustic touches with handscraped hardwood and slate, etc. Please help!

    Could you take a picture of the space in question? It might help others visualize what you are talking about.

    yes, once you posted it won't.

    you could post the life size type murals or 3d, choices are abundant, specially made piece of art.
