Need some help making my living-dining more inviting.

Hi,

I feel like my room has too much brown (sofas and wood floor) but I am not sure how to add more color to make inviting.

I would like to buy a new dining table and chairs. Also, I can paint some items with chalk paint (same way I did with the gray piece of furniture behind the dining table).

Thank you.

Also a small area rug in that same color family---rust or yellows or some reds. I think you can put the white pillows in another room as they provide too stark a contrast here.

Replacing the blinds with curtains will add instant warmth......as will lamp light.

Rugs and curtains (as suggested) will help. Make sure the rug is 2 feet wider on all sides than the table so the chairs sit on it when out and the one for the LR should be large enough that the front legs of the chair and sofa sit on it.

You need some fabric items-rugs, curtains, pillows. That will break up those hard lines and tone down the wood. top it off with some shine-crystal, mercury glass, shiny lamp bases-will help create depth and give "pop" to the room.

Thank you for all the ideas. I need to replace the dining table (too old and makes noises). I am thinking of buying the arles in grey oak form RH. Does it sounds like a good idea? Again, I do not want to make any heavier.

Not sure what type of chair goes with this table.

    Thank you

Love the paint in your dining area. It is very calming. Can you tell me the brand and color name?

If I do not want to use a rug (I love the wood floor) is there any way to break the brown?

I dont see anyway to do it without area rugs. Thats what the rooms need. There will still be plenty of floor showing. It will be a big improvement

Funny that you posted this, I am looking for ideas for a family room that has a similar problem. I just bought 2 brown leather sofas, but my problem is more the type of tables to go with. I am actually tempted to paint a coffee table but I cant decide. Maybe you could paint that coffee table in the middle? The other thought I had is to add more to the wall with the single picture on it. Since you don't want a rug, I would do window treatments and pillows. You don't have to take down the blinds if you like the room darkening aspect. But If this is a room you sit in a lot, a rug would make it softer and warmer feeling. Good luck, post pics, I would love to see what you decided. Maybe it will help me.

Agree you need a rug -- And watch out for the too-small rug syndrome (or TSRS) Haha!

I thought about painting the coffee table, but now I am thinking of buying some new tables. I would like to keep the blue stone one (I will move it to the corner between both sofas). Then, I am thinking of getting this two

Does anybody has any suggestions about what fabric the sofa pillows should be so they do not slide (the sofa is made of leather).

    Thank you
