Designed to blur the line between residence and art gallery, the owner, a designer, required a residence to showcase the furniture and artwork she’s collected through the years. A linear circulation axis of entry/path/ goal defines the apartment’s spatial organization. An ethereal white runway juxtaposed against a striking yellow wall functions to separate the public and private domains. Floor to ceiling windows provides a panoramic view of the city from the living area and master bedroom. A sculptural staircase leads to a rooftop garden where a sculpture entitled “ghost stair” creates the illusion of continuing the climb upward into the Manhattan skyline.
