This is what I'm thinking of when I think of a false front with a flat roof behind. We can easily give the building a shape seen from the street, and easily put a flat roof structure behind it. And the false front only needs to be deep enough to support the finish material. I'd bet we could get away with something 18" deep. It might be interesting to have the second story partially exposed behind this.
