Tour a Designer’s Stylish and Dramatic Kitchen and Laundry Area

In this episode of Houzz TV Live, interior designer Joni Spear gives a virtual tour of the kitchen and laundry area inside her recently renovated 100-year-old home in Smithfield, Virginia. In the kitchen, Spear tore out large sections of walls to open up the floor plan and fit in an island. Black appliances, a black island base and black soapstone countertops mix with light-gray cabinets and brass accents to create drama. A three-dimensional arabesque-pattern backsplash offers another punch of style.

Elsewhere in the home, Spear took square footage from a guest bedroom to create a 3-by-6-foot laundry nook in a hallway. The space, which became Spear’s favorite spot in the house, features hexagon tile, linen cabinets, stacked appliances and a small sink.
