My start-up company, Habitats Tiny Homes, is in the planning and development stages of the first tiny home community here in San Diego. I only got a very small business loan to get this project started, so my working capitol is next to nothing. I needed a concept drawing for the community that would convey the overall concept to the city and attract investors. I thought I had found my "guy", but in working with him felt he didn't really understand what I needed. In addition, it was going to cost almost half my overall working capitol and would take 6 weeks to complete. I knew this was an important piece to the puzzle, but I decided to call around. I found Environs through a google search, called and got Marty. I explained what I was looking for and he knew exactly what I needed. His price was 1/3 of what I had been quoted and his turn-around time was a week. I never done a project like this before so gave Marty just some very basic info to go off of verbally. I granted him creative license and relied on his experience. The design he come up with was better than anything I could have thought of in my head. I was really blown away at the result and am thrilled I found him and his company. I will be using Environs to complete the project when we have our property and permits.

Marty at Environs is an artist with landscape. He took my typical looking yard that frankly looked like every other one in the neighborhood and made it unique. I regularly have neighbors asking who designed my landscape. Marty is a professional who is very easy to work with and open to client suggestions. I now water my yard once a week even in the summer saving money on the water bill and the yard looks great!

We have used Environs to do full landscape architecture plans for our home. We met with several companies before deciding to work with Environs. It is an investment to choose to use an architect when planning your landscape but it is one we are finding has more that paid for itself in the value received during the biding and work process with landscape, hardscape and electrical and irrigation. They also have excellent referrals for contractors they have worked with and in the end we chose theirs after bidding out several and we are thrilled with the process. One note is that we have a steep canyon in our yard and proper engineering of the types of retaining walls and drainage needed were critical for us, their knowledge of working in this terrain and getting it right means we will not have issues in the future.

New house construction broke ground in 2009 and it was a two year project. The landscaping was well planned and is now maturing to its full beauty. Environs have shown a continuing interest in the house and gardens and come by regularly to give advice to us so we can instruct our professional gardeners..

I met Marty Schmidt, owner of Environs, when I was on a committee working to beautify an unsightly median at the end of I-8. Marty volunteered his time, created a workable plan, donated many plants, and oversaw the project. Marty is great to work with, so my husband and I hired him to draw up plans for a hardscape/landscaping project at my husband's dental office. Marty has a great eye: he pointed out many possibilities we never thought of, such as a very cool design for the fence that compliments the lines of our exterior remodel. His style is clean, sensible, workable, and sustainable. The office looks great. We have hired him for our home project - a new driveway and landscaping - and are very happy with his vision for uncluttering our landscaping and creating a nice entryway to our home.
