The LANDSCAPE DESIGN PROCESS usually consists of the following phases: PRELIMINARY CONSULTATION - Initial discussions with client to clarify goals. PROPERTY ANALYSIS- Existing site conditions such as topography, wind, light, vegetation, and sightlines are reviewed. Base materials might include building and plot plans, septic system 'as-builts', & any other site related information. DESIGN DEVELOPMENT - A preliminary layout is prepared using rough, broad brush sketches to stimulate discussion of opportunities as well as constraints. Studies are done with close attention to the integration of interior and exterior space. Pathways, parking, entry, play, views & screening are among the many issues which arise. The designer often interfaces with the architect in this phase. MASTER PLAN - The master plan is a concept plan which includes walkways & parking, paving & wall materials, fencing, lighting, as well as a planting plan and detailed plant list. Using this document, the client & designer have a basis for determination of a budget as well as construction phasing. PROCUREMENT OF CONTRACTORS - The designer is able to assist clients in the selection of qualified contractors. PLANT SELECTION - It is strongly suggested that the designer select and place all plant materials. Healthy plants and proper planting practices greatly improve the success of any landscape. SUPERVISION OF SITE WORK- Site visits and supervision of work is separate and shall be billed at an hourly rate. FOLLOW UP INSPECTION - During this visit, a punch list is made and future phasing may be discussed.

Susannah created an absolutely magical meditation space in our backyard (see the photo here: http://www.houzz.com/projects/879208/meditation-space). Her creativity, use of non-traditional and beautiful materials, and her patience with our continually changing ideas :) made the whole project a delightful experience. The project was completed efficiently, on time, and on budget - a completely professional experience at a very reasonable cost - thank you, Suzannah!

We just completed building a custom timber frame home. Our house is sited in an environmentally sensitive area abutting watershed and conservation land. Ms. Davis worked with us to develop a comprehensive design that honors and enhances the natural beauty of our property. We were involved from the very beginning developing the plan and choosing the trees and plantings. Susannah listened carefully to our wishes and designed a plan that included hardscaping and horticultural elements that defined our property integrating it with the natural beauty of the area. Of particular note was her hands-on style. She worked directly with our Contractor on site to insure the coordination of all aspects of the landscape design including a custom irrigation system for the lawn and planting areas. Ms. Davis's landscaping contractors were outstanding. They built two fieldstone retaining walls that look like they have been there for a hundred years. The signature design element of Davis Land Design is Goshen Stone, which was skillfully used to define our flower beds and walkways. Everyone who visits our home comments on their beauty. Susannah's knowledge of trees, plants and shrubs is extraordinary. We chose those that are native to the area and bloom throughout the spring and fall. She also chose shrubs that would add color during the long New England winter. Each tree, shrub and plant was carefully chosen and planted under her direct supervision. We could not be happier with the outcome.

Susannah Davis, first of all, was a sheer delight to work with. She listens, figures out what you care about in a garden, is creative, full of ideas, incredibly knowledgeable, and always upbeat and energetic. Our was a garden from a blank slate, a boring backyard rectangle. It is now a diverse, non-linear creation of great beauty, charm and color admired by everyone fortunate enough to see it.
