In fact, Steve is unique among all of the contractors we've had occasion to collaborate with in our years of homeownership, beginning with his obvious dedication to frequent, transparent, and honest communications with his clients. I highly recommend Steve and Anne-Émilie for your landscape project needs! I first approached them in summer 2022 with a relatively blank slate of a backyard and a clear budget in mind. While other design-build firms were either unresponsive or had astronomical project minimums, I knew I hit a home run with Steve and Anne-Émilie right off the bat: not long after our initial contact, they sent me a questionnaire to learn about my design aesthetic, my home, my aspirations for the backyard renovation, my budget...in short, they covered all the bases up front, exhibiting an attention to detail that I (a VERY detail-oriented individual) greatly appreciated. Since there was no real rush for me to get this done, the scope of the project took shape during the fall as they spent time familiarizing themselves with the space, drawing up multiple layout options, and ordering items to be installed. We began construction in earnest in November, which all in all was a very smooth process considering it was so near to the holidays. All the sub-contractors were hard-working, knowledgeable, and communicative. As for the budget, Steve was mindful of my limits throughout the process, providing a detailed breakdown of the estimate before we started and staying right on target with it throughout the build (apart from a couple minor changes here and there mid-construction, which he made sure to clear with me first before proceeding). The result of all their hard work was a stunning new outdoor kitchen and improved landscape area that I know I will enjoy for years to come. I am very happy to have worked with such quality professionals as Steve and Anne-Émilie, who clearly take great pride in what they do and are a pleasure to work with. I am looking forward to completing more projects with them down the road as I continue to build out my backyard (need to pause for now to give my wallet a rest). Creative, professional and diligent…. three words that would describe my experience with Gravel to Gold. When I first described my desire for a butterfly garden and huge amounts of color in our landscape, Anne-Emilie not only heard my wishes but created an Eden for us that is serene and stunning. Starting with the extension landscaping and irrigation plan, Anne-Emilie worked with me on every aspect of the plan to insure it would grow into the brilliant mosaic of color, balance, fragrance and harmony that I imagined. Steve and his professional crew executed the plan flawlessly, which included blending and installing hardscape finishes that enhanced and accented the beauty of the lawns, flowers, bushes and trees. The result was, and continues to be amazing, and exactly what I had dreamed it could be. I am so thankful to Anne-Emilie and Steve for helping us create the beautiful surroundings we appreciate every day. The results were far beyond my expectations & I couldn't be more impressed & satisfied with the quality work that was done by Anne Emilie and Steve. Gold Stars to Steve Gold and his crew. They built our beautiful Carlsbad garden designed by Amelia Lima in the spirit of Brazilian landscape legend Roberto Burle Marx, with a palette of drought-tolerant plants drawn from the region to provide changing colors and textures throughout the year. Steve, Taylor, and Joe paid careful attention to every detail. They did a meticulous job installing curvy decomposed granite paths defined by metal edges, along with a Netafim irrigation system and low-voltage lighting. They gave plenty of TLC to each new plant, from small ground covers to bromeliads, Black-eyed Susan vines, and large succulents. In some cases this required an electric jackhammer to break up clay soil. Our plants look very happy. Steve hired MCR Contracting to build our deck and pergola (with retractable orange awning and redwood that Steve had salvaged from Balboa Park) and their workmanship was superb. Our project went very smoothly and everyone on Steve’s team was knowledgeable and friendly. They are adept at artful projects that require a high degree of experience and skill, bringing together architecture, art, landscape design, and fine craftsmanship. We consider Steve to be both artist and craftsman and we highly recommend Gravel to Gold.

Our home has been transformed by the work that Gravel to Gold, Inc. performed. While we started with one vision, the challenges of the pandemic made us rethink our choices. Steve, Anne-Emilie and the team were super helpful in helping us craft a new vision, and their execution was flawless. The team that Steve assembled to perform the work was top-notch, and we could not be happier. Steve and his crew did a great job installing new irrigation lines and sprinkler heads in my front yard. They fit me in on a Saturday and did the whole job on one day. Very happy with their services!

Besides the great looking yard, here are a few things that impressed me: We had a newborn at the time and everyone on the work site took the time to ask if things were convenient and not too noisy for us. One day, some demo work was being done and my neighbor was worried that the noise might overlap with his daughter's study time. I went to smooth things over with my neighbor but Steve had already talked with him and worked out a solution. An irrigation part malfunctioned after the job had been completed and Steve personally returned to do the repair. I’m a fairly picky and particular person so believe me, when I recommend Gravel to Gold, it’s for good reason.
